Don't underestimate the power of cheesy cartoon animals. Kids eat that stuff up.

It's the next big thing.

No one besides us probably cares about ROTF anymore

What exactly did you see? Ice Age 3, a $100+ million, CGI movie opened with a little more than $13 million while TF, a movie that has already grossed over $240 Million in 8 days took in more than $10 million. On a Wednesday, no less. Let's see what the weekend has in store before the doom and gloomers run rampant chanting "I told you so!!".

Perhaps the negative reviews from the critics turned away other potential customers.
Also Ice Age 3 has a pregnant cute mammoth whereas ROTF had ugly bike bots and Ice Age 3 has dinosaurs too so TF3 needs to fight back with Dinobots and Mammoth robots and Cheetor and Rattrap.

Highly doubt that. The general public seems to love it, and people are more likely to trust the word of mouth from friends and family.

As for this:

1.) It's "Ice Age". The people LOVE "Ice Age".

2.) Everyone and their mother, father and third uncle went in droves to see it last week. If anything, most of the people going this time are people that wanna watch it again.

Ice Age is like Shrek. Should have stopped after the first movie but although they made more of it people will still go to see the third one (Shrek 4 is coming out.... wonder what kind of records that one will make :/)
