I remember the episode where Grimlock became a genius. | |

Maybe they crash landed on earth millions of years ago and were discovered by the Autobots, Maybe they caught an Earth tv show about dinosaurs and thought they would make good battle modes - then later they reformat to another mode. It would be cool to see, but maybe just not the whole movie, they would need more conventional alt modes at some point.
Yes it would mostly be fan wank, but a majority of us would love it and it would sell toys.

Dinobots don't have to be dumb like in G1.
All that is needed is a brief appearance by the Dinobots similar to the brief appearance of Devastator in order to sell Dinobot toys for the movie. | |

If they decide to put them in #3, as long as they can come up with a logical explanation for their presence, then I'm cool with it. |

Predictably a T-Rex in a museum somewhere. But that only works for him. Not the rest of the Dinobots. | |
