Here's my idea on how he might fit in (whether in TF3 or beyond)

    - The flushing out of Decepticons is a great success
    - More and more Autobots arrive on earth
    - One of these: Grimlock
    - He refuses to scan any vehicles and remains in protoform
    - Dislikes the way Prime has been working with humans (in building Autobot City? Or sharing Energon as an energy source? Ideas?)
    - Leads his own faction of newly arrived Autobots against Prime
    - When a human villain sets up an Autobot for murder (in a conspiracy to drive them away from earth), Prime agrees to a human trial
    - Grimlock opposes, convinces Ironhide to join his faction
    - The renegade Autobots stage a rescue of the convicted Autobot - to disastrous results
    - War between humans & Grimlock faction
    - Prime reluctantly fights with the humans
    - Much destruction and bloodshed - Ironhide killed
    - Prime finally defeats Grimlock
    - Prime leads Autobots to abandon earth once and for all; gives Sam a device to call for them should the need arise
    - The human villain wins. Earth is open for Decepticon attacks once more.

    Opinions? Suggestions? Oppositions?

Here's how I worked Grimmy into it:

I figure (if it is written and directed with any kind of logic) The government will still be pissed and the Autobots will have to go into hiding for real (look! an excuse for new alt modes and toys Hasbro!) Nest will go underground as well ala A-Team.

The Decepticons will still have a chunk of all spark thanks to The Doctor and they will head back to Mars to start bringing the protoforms... I mean ahem... hatchlings online. Soundwave remains in orbit and begins working on methods of converting fossil fuels and other carbon into Energon Cubes (hell yes!).

The movie will get going when Megatron and company start making strikes on key points around the globe to gather fuel. The Autobots always seem to arive just short until their newly arrived communications expert Blaster realizes they are using Government systems to listen in.

As the Autobots begin to try and figure out a way to shut out Soundwave they are found out by a certain aussie hacker lady who decided to stick around and work for the government. Well the US gov is now well and truly pissed that the Autobots have been hiding out still and trying to mess with their systems so they get ready to go after them.

Meanwhile the Decepticons have discovered a long dormant GIANT Transformer that the Primes were using as a home base during their operation in 17,000 BC. It comes online and they convince it to help stomp some crap up. Starscream speculates that it is the legendary Trypticon. (of course it is a T-rex cause it scanned a fossil in the mountain side they crashed it into.)

The Autobots make a narrow escape as the ex-nest folks show up and we get some human on human killing and head to fight this giant robot that is stomping crap up some where. Big fight happens, booms and explosions etc.

Sam is there helping bumblebee hide and is around you know, doing Sam stuff. If you need boobs in there to Megan Fox could come along.

In the end they learn some stuff about Trypticon, stomp Decepticon butt thanks to some Dino heavy lifters the Primes brought along (not to bright but plenty strong) and get a new home on the moon on to TF4

Grimlock and the Dinobots could end up being comic relief, but in a Jetfire way, he's still a badass, unlike his G1 Movie/Season 3 counterpart.

I'd prefer a darker version, with him questioning Prime's leadership and finally defying him to seek his idea of justice against human hostility.

Dialogue between TFs are my favorite parts of both films.

I had a similar theory. I like that he doesn't want to scan a vehicle. My thinking was that it would be because they don't portray the strength that he possesses. Then he could say that only one thing on Earth ever did - the T-Rex. Then Ratchet builds him a mechanized T-Rex mode.

If Grimlock shows up in the Movie-verse, he had better not be dumb caveman Grimlock.

No, he'll be a leader - one who opposes Prime's philosophy of assenting to the humans. He wants a spot of earth for Autobot City and parity for all. When an Autobot is framed for murder of a human, he leads his faction to save him.

I think that Grimlock and his team The "Wreckers" are group of Cybertronic Knights of Round Table that went in time to The Age of The Dinosaurs that 2 of them when to the Jurassic Era others when to the Cretacrous Era so they called themsheves The "Dinobots" after a cosmit hit on earth than wiped out the Dinobots, and never hear them again so a team of Palontologist was working on a Dinosaur sit than one of them hit on a rock, and Reworking The Dinobots to see Optimus Prime,Ironhide,Ratchet,Skids,Mudflap,Sideswipe,Jolt,Bumblebee, & NEST so they join The Autobots form the defeated of The Decepticons.

I actually liked that a lot, seems like killing a major autobot is needed, and with GM axing the Topkick Ironhide is the most vulnerable right now.

Not to mention that Ironhide has been a consistent, likeable character for the past two films IMO. He's one of the better Autobots, right behind Prime, Bumblebee, Jetfire, The Twins, Wheelie, and Sideswipe.

OK, so maybe he's further down the list. But the audience is familiar with him and he's the only 'Bot that I can think of who's truly suited for a death scene, especially seeing how he's Prime's number two.

These are both terrible ideas. Civil war between Autobots? Really!? That's what you want to see? I can see Decepticons infighting with each other like that, but it's too out of character for the Autobots, even Grimlock.

Alice in ROTF has set a precident for organic changeforms. The Dinobots could just have scanned theme park Dinosaurs like Alice did. Come to think of it, Animated set that precident as well.

I think it should go another way: The Decepticon attacks reach a level that NEST and the government realize that they just can't handle the threat anymore, even with the Autobots. That's when they call in "the crack swad and the Dinobots show up. I do like the idea of a movie Autobot city (Movieverse Metroplex or Fortress Maximus) and possibly even either Trypticon or... oh that's right, they already used Scorponok.

Yeah, a Dinobot crack squad that decides "We're going to be dinosaurs, and that's that!" would be great. Sorry, I'm just stuck on making the Dinobots funny, because I really enjoyed the mix of comedy and seriousness in Jetfire.

Someone has suggested the Dinobots be on Earth since the Mezoic era itself, but the movieverse Transformers are less than half than a million years old it seems.
