i actually dont know if this would be considered a plot hole, as a matter of fact now that i think of it, i dont think it classifies, but i dont know what else to call it.

the primes' mission was to find stars that did not provide life to any other species so that they can power the all spark. How close is earth to cybertron? We have countless stars that we have discovered that do not have planets supporting life orbiting them...all of those stars you see at night....odds are 99% of them dont support life, so why would the primes choose the earth to build thier harvestor?...the one planet with in billions of millions that has life....it just doesnt make sense..there are so many more stars available that they could have harvested (which they would have had to pass in order to get to our sun). Why didnt they stop and harvest those? Theres thousands of stars between here and where ever cybertron is...them choosing our sun is like me starting in CT looking for a gas station so my car doesnt die and deciding on using the one over in Texas...

so what you're saying, in a much more clear way to explain it is: Why did they build it in the first place, since there was obviously already life here?

Yeah my GF asked me that question. I didn't have an answer for her either.

not exactly, why did they come all the way over to our sun if there was plenty of other stars on the way that they could have utilized...

form watching the movie, my interpretation was the primes started huilding the harvestor and then realized there was life on the planet after the fact, so when the primes decided to pack up, the fallen got upset and said screw that which snowballed the events. My question is why did they even reach our sun in the first place?

Hurm. Never even thought of that.
Maybe The Fallen built it single-handedly.

in the movie they said a sun like ours. maybe its special.
and the primes didnt do a good job of checking for life. they were finished w/ the harvester when the humans found them.

ive only seen the movie once, but i thought in the intro it showed a bunch of fallens working together building it, and then the early people showed up and the fallen stepped on one

Because Bay needed a reason for them to be on earth, and he was rushing the script, but if you want a logical reason.
How about they choose the first sun, that if destroyed, the gravity vacuum that was created in the after math, wouldn't effect cybertron that much.

oh and I don't think earth and cybertron are that far apart in the movie verse, considering how fast Megsy got back to cybertron and the Fallen after he was resurrected.

You cant just space bridge ANYWHERE, theres an energy current you must tap into, like a road, and earth, by some sort of fate, lies in one of those energy nodes. The Fallen slipped away from his brothers, and space bridged to a far system, hoping his brothers wouldnt realize his location. An uncharted world later to be called Earth.

The cube's amazing potential had touched him at the core, and his pure desire for power had taken him, by chance, here. It was the first planet he landed on, and of all the possibilities, it was one that harbored life. No matter, this was where he would begin his secret project, for should he bridge to another location, he risked being discovered, as the space bridging energy ripple from the voyage is detected.

No matter, this planets puny life forms would not sway his resolved, their lives were unimportant against the promise of such power. To justify his decision to end an entire species, he simply chose to hate them.

yea i understand they needed it on earth for the sake of the movie, but thats not what im debating, i want to know why the characters decided to use earth...from what i gather there is no reason other than they needed to tie earth in somehow (lazy story writing, im looking at you orci/kurtzman) and thats why i made the thread. Im hoping someone can give a reason other than they needed it to drive the plot.

also that wasnt cybertron that megs flew back to, it was one of the moons of saturn

So he was the first Decepticon really, he'd allready fallen before he was The Fallen.

And when the voice over mentions there was a fierce battle on the planet it was probably the Primes fighting Fallens followers, the first D'con army.

    That'll work for me.

this makes sense, but can anyone confirm if the fallen was on earth alone in the begining or with the other primes?

actually, no we know that the other primes were there because thats where the matrix was found...in the tomb of the primes - on earth.

...and the matrix of leadership powers the sun destroyer AND is all of these other magical things...it's the swiss army knife of Transformers movieverse.

....and THEN the primes, in all of their intellectual glory, decide to "hide" the matrix within eyeshot of the pyramids rather than...I don't know...space bridging to the other side of the universe with it? Then there's Transformers graffiti all over the place blabbing about where it is.

They didn't know there was life until the Fallen found those hunters. Then when the other Primes learned they wanted to go the Fallen said "NO!" all hell broke loose and the war began. The Primes killed the fallen and sacrificed themselves to protect the Matrix (the power of the Harvaster) to never have the harvaster used again. the end

Maybe they did find out and intervened. By the time they realized and got there time enuf had passed for the structure to be completed. When they reached, they saw what he had done or was about to do, and thats when they knew he had fallen.

Its a theory, come up with a better one, one thats more satisfying than just 'oh its just lazy scriptwriting'
