I don't want a 2+ hours of stuff like "Hey look! This guy is a carbon copy of a bit character from G1!" | Can doesn't equal will, and background cameos, color scheme tributes, & design nods consuming an entire movie in the manner you suggest sounds rediculous. I can't think of one movie which you could provide as an example, probably because no one would ever make a media film like that, ever. Or are you implying the occasional faceplate on Prime, Bumblebee being yellow, namesakes being used for TF character cast, the line of "One shall stand, one shall fall", the last name Witwicky, et cetera consumed the entirety of both Transformers movies, ensuring a lack of coherency?
Also, please set the strawman of yours aside, being I didn't mention a thing about a need for comprehensive knowledge of G1 or another continuity on anything. Same with your 'carbon copy' nonsense, had to deal with that bs enough from certain folks when the first film was coming out. "...Til all are Lost." |

Same with your 'carbon copy' nonsense, had to deal with that bs enough from certain folks when the first film was coming out. | I am saying nothing of the sort. I am just saying that I have read complaints about almost every part in the movies that is not an homage to something earlier. Now I am not saying you or anyone else specificly holds this view, just that there seems to be a vocal group that would prefer the movies to have as many references as physiclly possible. And I belive that such a movie would be garbage.
I do like stuff like the faceplate and the updated Whitwickys. However, I also like stuff that is original to the movies, such as Bumblebee's radio voice and the millitary being effective against Transformers ( Because if the army's heat and kinetic energy based weapons don't work, why can the dinobots hurt other TFs?) The movies, ROTF in partcular, certainly aren't perfect, but they should have to fall back on 'this guy looks like a G1 guy with the same name'.
Either way, though I do belive what I stated in my first post was how ROTF could be worse, It was a joke. Perhaps I should have used a smiley. |

Some were met, like a few of my favorite characters were used. However, some things were not, like Bumblebee was not a VW. I wanted to see that for many reasons. In the end, I liked the movie.
When I went to see the second Bay TF movie, I approached it like I do a visit to the Waffle House, with lowered expectations.
I was not disappointed. Still glad to get fed/have another TF movie.
That being said, I look forward to TF3 hopefully. Nothing is in stone at the moment that I know of, so, it might be a wholly different sort of movie than what we have gotten to this point. I think a lot of people here could write a really good screen story for TF3, and I would solicit help from the Fandom for the next movie, if I were in power to do so.
As far as the gist of this thread, opinions are allowed. No penalty and no foul for someone's view of whether this or any movie is good/bad. I genuinely enjoy a good brace of intelligent and courteous discussion on the matter. I have read about things from the movie in these types of discussions that I missed in my two viewings of the movie (got to get viewing #3 under my belt soon).
Besides, its more fun to get along than not. Heracles Max |

This is a forum, we are obviously ALL Transformers fans here, we may not like a continuity, but if we did not like the idea of Transformers, we wouldn't be here, so I guess we all have something in common.
It may look like a 35 Ft tall mechanical monster, BECAUSE IT IS a 35 Ft tall mechanical monster!

Unless the movie was your first dip into the Transformers universe and you haven't had time to dip into the other series then chances are that you are a mix of series you liked and you didn't like.
Even lover and hater seem to have become some sort of black and white thing. If you didn't like the film then somehow you didn't like anything at all about the film. If you liked the film then somehow you liked everything about the film. I think it would be hard to divide things into a safe place for just one sort of fan when few people are pure love or pure hate. |

That said, I'm not seeing ROTF because it sounds like the exact opposite of Animated. As in, it's everything that I don't want in a Transformers series. Other than the Constructicons, they're awesome. And I still like the toys.
I think that they should ditch Bay and get llet Spielberg to direct while Orci and Kurtzman write. They proved they have big time potential with the new Star Trek, and it appears they didn't have a lot to do with this movie's story because of the writer's strike, and Bay being Bay, he insisted on keeping his story, and will probably pull the same junk with the next movie.
Heck, even George Lucas proved he still has some spark with the new Indiana Jones. Yeah, your milage may vary, but the reason for the aliens... Is because it's in the fifties. Lots of adventure stuff in the fifties had aliens, just like the same adventure serials from the 30s had spirits and gods. It's not as good as the first Indies, but better than the Star Wars prequels. |
