I can understand the want to not have people badmouthing the movie though.

It just creates a negative atmosphere.

Now, that's not to say people shouldn't be allowed to voice their opinion, if you don't like the movie (for a valid reason, of which I can say yeah..I can see valid reasons someone may not like the movie), but so many people are so downright spiteful and hateful in their dislike of it. And it just creates a rather unfun environment (though admittedly, some of the childish rants I do enjoy).

Whereas expressing positive opinions doesn't really cause any harm, there is no negativity.

However, the divide between those praising the movie, and those trashing the movie (and I will admit, some people with legitimate complaints are unfortunate casualties of the crossfire) doesn't help matters at all, and just makes things even more negative, with people attacking others.

The only reason why posters here bash or criticize the film is because they felt let down by parts of the film, or the whole thing. You won't find anyone who doesn't care, or a casual moviegoer, to post here.

The issue is, people who post reasonable criticisms are flamed like everyone else.

Movie hater: I don't like this about the film, it was crap.

Movie Lover: HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE IT?! IT GAVE YOU EVERYTHING YOU WANTED, SORRY FOR NOT BEING GEEWUN!!!

Well, saying it's crap rather than giving reasons as to why you did not like an aspect of the film isn't quite what I would call reasonable.

But I do agree, people that post decent arguements as to why they disliked things about the film are unfortunate victims of the crossfire.

The whole issue really comes down to the trolls that are very vocal and unreasonably/unnecessarily hostile against the film.

They were relating cause to effect. 'I though the movie was crap, because of this'. No, I didn't post a specific criticism, as it wasn't needed for my point.
The whole issue really comes down to trolls, full stop.

Don't blame it on the lovers, don't blame it on the haters. Just blame it on the trolls, who create these goddamn factions in the first place.

I think part of the problem is too many people are running with the assumption that a bad film some how equals a film that is not fun and you can't enjoy. That to "bash" any part of a film means that the film is somehow an unwatchable mess.

I love watching Army of Darkness. Is it a good movie? By no stretch of anyone's wildest imagination is a good film, but it is insanely fun in all it's bad movie glory.

Rocky Horror Picture Show, not a good movie by almost any movie standards but a total blast.

Heck I've even watched Plan 9 From Outer Space several times of my own free will because there is some magical fun to the badness of an Ed Wood film.

Is Revenge of the Fallen a bad film? Oh yes it ranks right up there with the badness only someone like Micheal Bay could capture. Is it the best example of Transformers anyone could ever hope for? Oh heck no! Is it something fun in spite of the glaring problems? Yes, yes it's a fun film so it's not a slam on someone if they say they had fun.

This is the honest truth. Bashing is a cathartic experience... it allows us to somehow recoup some kind of value, after wasting our time on a bad movie.

And if I must admit it, I feel a certain satisfaction that all the defenders of ROTF are now feeling flummoxed and betrayed by a world turned upside down, a world that rejects and reviles Michael Bay and his misshapen cinematic progeny.... and the reason is because that's how I felt after the first Bayformers. I felt confused and dismayed that such a turgid piece of crap was somehow winning accolades from the mainstream media and turning into a successful event movie. I felt like I was in bizarro world, crusading against a mob of deluded peons.

Well... now you know how it feels to have the rug pulled out from under you. Your movie sucks, and I'm glad that people are finally starting to notice. It restores a little bit of my faith in humanity.

So yeah. But one more thing I have to ask the opening poster... you call... Titanic... an artsy-fartsy movie???

Oh my... oh my oh my... I don't know how to respond to that. Titanic was a huge, bloated cliche-ridden commercial blockbuster. In that sense, it belongs firmly to the same genre as ROTF, a film short on sophistication, art or intelligence... but high on spectacle and mass appeal. It just happened to be near the top of that particular barrel of trash, while ROTF is somewhere near the bottom.

If Titanic is your idea of a pretentious artsy film made for the elitist intellectuals, your standards must be pretty distorted. I mean, seriously. :)

And at the same time, some people need to stop being whiny little bitches and just enjoy a damn movie...

I didn't find the twins to be all that annoying.

I didn't find Soundwave's voice to be "wrong". And my ears work fine, thanks. Not everything HAS to be G1...

I didn't have a problem with them having "Grindor" in the movie.

    Wheelie was cool.

Jetfire was interesting, and he rocked.

The movie was not perfect, but it was pretty damn enjoyable. Not one dull moment, and it seemed better and more cohesive than the first.

It's sad that those who didn't like it demand to be heard, but those that do and create a thread like this are met with contempt and the nay-sayers demand closure. So much for democracy, and freedom of opinions of those who see the glass half full.

Okay... this is a point of view I can sort of respect.

For one thing, you can admit that Transformers/ROTF are BAD movies. That's a great start.

Secondly, I freely acknowledge that sometimes bad things can be fun.

However, I think the problem here is that many people simply think that ROTF is brilliant. There's no guilty pleasure, no broader perspective, no knowing indulgence.

The other side of it is that most of the "bad" films you mention there are underdog films... movies made on a shoestring budget that are either funny despite their best intentions, or movies that make up for their weaknesses with a charming wit or cult sensibility.

ROTF is none of these things. This is a huge, blockbuster, fully supported multi-million dollar studio flagship movie. With all that going for it, it has no excuse for being so bad. It's reveling in it's own sloppiness and low standards. It's not a charming underdog, that we like because of it's spunk and heart, in spite of it's obvious limitations... it's a giant obnoxious gorilla that runs into a party screaming "I'M AWESOME! I'M AWESOME!!" while eating all your food, setting things on fire, and laughing at it's own bad jokes.

Okay, seriously, I am not bothered with people liking the movie because they have a different opinion than me.

I am bothered by the consequences of such a pleased audience.

If ROTF sells well (and it does so far) that's a sign that it didn't do anything wrong, and should stick with its formula. That's my problem. In my opinion it was a trainwreck, but the massive approval negates any hopes for redemption and giving us back the good ol'school that was the TF2007 movie.

THAT's why I am getting pissed off any time someone says how perfect the movie was.
