I must have missed that poll where fans asked for robot balls, leg humping and ghetto stereotypes.

you bring up some good points OP.

However now my brain is just imagining the disaster that would befall a 5 year old with a lawn mower. Messy.

I agree, I liked the film too and I wish people understood it like that. But it seems like some people would rather bicker than understand one another.

My gods I hope peace doesn't break out any time soon these fight are some of the most entertaining stuff on the internet right now.

The foaming at the mouth angry fan going at with the faithful defender of all things Bay. The attempts by both sides to out insult the other side. The laughable closed mindedness to anything that doesn't support your point. The nearly fanatical determination not so see anyone else's point because you might have to give up a single damn inch.

You don't want to hear anything negative about the movie, fine don't come to the boards. You don't want to hear anything positive about the movie, fine don't come to the boards. In the mean time some of us are attempting to enjoy a fight that puts monkey vs truck to shame.

There are too many negative opinions going round. This movie doesn't deserve the bashing it has been getting. As I was watching the movie the 1st time I was thinking to myself "there's no way in hell anybody can say anything bad about this movie". Then I look on the internet & see nothing but bad being said. Normally I let people have their opinions, but in this particular case if I hear anybody say anything bad about this movie I'm going to go off on them. It's my favorite movie of all time, I loved every second of it & I don't need to hear anything negative about it. If you say you were bored or it didn't have a plot or there was too much action or it didn't flow smoothly or it was too loud or the actors didn't do a good job you will automatically be labeled an *ASSHOLE* in my book & I will treat you accordingly. That's just the way it is with me, plain & simple. Didn't like ROTF? Then they're a stupid moronic A-hole with no taste! It's non-negotiable with me.

If somebody tells me they didn't like ROTF & then tries to start pissin & whinin about it I'm going immediately cut them off & say "you're a fuckin idiot! Get out of my face!". I don't want people like that anywhere near me. I have no use for people like that in my world.

I'm sick & tired of people anyway. I'm not gonna allow them to continue to ruin things that I love. People are too critical, hateful & negative these days. I don't have the stomach for it anymore.

Okay, putting aside for the moment your commitment to call anyone who didn't like the movie an "asshole", how does someone not liking the movie and expressing their opinion about it RUIN the film for you?

I totally agree, some of the humor was very uncalled for, and very vulgar, especially due to transformers is a traget audince to childern, and that made me very, very mad. Other than that i fucking loved the movie, made me feel like a kid on the edge of my seat again, It was a veru fun movie to watch! Not a masterpiece, and like I said, i could have did without some of the vulgar humor, but still a fun movie, and I cant wait to watch it on DVD.

There's an argument that I always disliked; it's Transformers, so we should never expect quality stories or characters from it.

It's based on a toyline, so don't expect anything good.

It's a 30 minute commercial, so don't expect anything good.

It's a Michael Bay movie, so don't expect anything good.

I've seen plenty of superb Transformers stories and characters told in the cartoons, in the comics, in fanfic, and I thought the '07 movie was great. I know Transformers is capable of great stories and characters. Specifically, I know Michael Bay, Roberto Orci, and Ron Kurtzman are capable of telling good stories, because TF '07 put a big smile on my face.

RotF had a good premise, but a poor story. It had a lot of great action and visuals, but it was clumsy and clearly the writers had little time to polish the script. In an interview I read with Orci and Kurtzman, they said that due to the writer's strike they really didn't have as much time on this script as they would've liked. I'm sure as professional writers able to view their work, even they see areas where they could have improved.

I don't think it's that we shouldn't expect good stories and plots, but that because it's a franchise based on a toyline, other people aren't gonna take it as seriously as most of the fandom.

Why do you think Bay declined first? All he knew was that it was based on a kid's toyline.
Sure, Bay does do some fiction digging to get ideas (like the Fallen), but if we want a masterpiece of a transformers movie, then you probably need someone who is good at making action movies with depth and has good knowledge of Transformers.

You make a great point with this mate, all any director has to do is watch season 1-4, The 86 Classic and go from there. That is all the knowledge a committed director would need to win. It just has not happened yet sadly.

In agreeing with what the people right above me said...

People are overusing the phrase "don't expect an Oscar-worthy experience." Of course no one's expecting an amazing movie. But action movies can have compelling characters, like in Spider-Man 2, and be fun and entertaining. This movie needed to at least have a decent storyline and I really felt like it lacked that.

If we say "just don't expect too much and it'll all be fine," what does that say? That Hasbro can just stop trying? That Transformers as a franchise can continue as a bunch of Armada/Energon/Cybertron-like TV shows with a billion robots and explosions but no engaging plots?

I keep saying this over and over: say what you want about ROTF, but the negative criticism and the way the film is still a commerical success will undoubtedly influence the future direction of the brand, and I don't think it's going to be pretty.

'Tis me Goatsiboy! im doing alright. Just working and paying the bills. wash, rise and repeat! how about yourself?

Just for the record, I'm not actually comparing Bay to a 5 year old. I'm simply stating that we know his record and what he can do, just like we would know what a 5 or 6 or 10 year old can do with a task. We know his strengths and many weaknesses. it would be completely different if let's say, James Cameron were to helm this and come out with the exact same movie. that would be like giving a 30 year old the same list of chores you would give a 5 year old and him royally fucking them up. while quite possible, it would be much more of a surprise.

i totally agree with this too.
