Bonecrusher was in a death grapple with Prime. Prime was fighting for his life against Grindor/zombie blackout/whoever he is. Even The Fallen was a heat of battle kind of thing. Killing someone in life or death struggles is one of those necessity kind of things, but at the same time he didn't go after the wounded Megatron or Starscream when he had the chance, since after all the battle was won, and the machine destroyed.
But I think I agree, the way he executed a down and out, disabled, and surrounded Demolishor really leaves a bad taste. This wasn't a case of the others, and wouldn't have been the case of telling someone who's shooting at you to surrender, it would be more the case of a guy with two broken legs, throwing his gun on the ground, raising his hands, and Prime stopping to gloat before shooting him in the face. It comes off as uncharacteristically cold blooded. Most want Prime to be a heroic badass and a soldier, not an executioner.
But I'd more blame it on one badly thought out scene, where the writers were trying to work in "The fallen" as early as possible. Maybe it would come off better if it had been Ironhide doing the shooting or possibly Sideswipe whom seems to be a walking murder machine in this movie.
There is the question of what he'd do with him, but that sounds more like an argument Ironhide would make to Prime rather than something Prime would have decided on his own. After all the humans in the first movie were already prepared to capture TFs using freeze teams.

I don't go into these movies expecting these characters to act just like their cartoon counterparts. It's a different universe, different characters and different people behind it's creation. Except the movie universe for what it is and don't stress about it. |

Which is quite frankly the only real reason the bad guys (or, in some situations, the good guys) have survived as long as long as they have in ANY TF series.
Also, "bloodlust" would be killing an Autobot or human while he was in a battle rage. I reeeally don't think any version of Prime (except Shattered Glass) has anything CLOSE to bloodlust. | Prime is in this movie, a Leader. A bot/man who has to look out for the best interests of survival and his men/bots, and whatever it is they are protecting.
So if a foe must die to save someone then so be it. I mean NEST itself was designed to hunt down and kill Decepticons. Im sure on Cybertron they had the facilities to do that. On Earth... naw.
I love classic Optimus, this is a new Optimus. |
