I'm starting to think that Soundwave is a Osprey Helijet. The new pics of the prototypes from ROTF legends, kind of adds to that. The headlines say it's Incinerator, but the face does look like the first movie toy. And it does seem to have plates on the sides of the face.

Starscream is second in command and would tell Soundwave what to do when in battle and Megatron not present.

Soundwave is a spy but a darn good one but I dont see Soundwave as a commander ( except G1 as cassette guardian)

I bet Soundwave is the SR71. It only makes sense that he is since the whole basis of the Blackbird is recon. On top of that I can also see the blackbird with the little drone becoming laserbeak of something.

    The little thingy on top.

Judging by the latest toy photos, whatever the SR-71 turns into, it won't look anything like Soundwave (or Jetfire for that matter).

It would be a travesty if Rumble isn't in ROTF! How can you have Soundwave without Rumble? Rumble was his enforcer, Lazerbeak and Ravage were the most effective when they were resuming surveillance duties. Rumble however, kicked major fucking ass, didn't matter what size they were.... "Form Devastator".... "NO WAY" "BOOM" "BOOM" "BOOM"

I dunno - what about that rather handy radiation that BayFormers emit which Sector Seven was able to detect? And I'm sure Cybertronians would have even more sophisticated sensing equiptment than humans too.

Kinda defeats the purpose of a disguise when someone can just wave a scanner around a car park or whatever and find you.

I assume that this is a plot gaffe, but what if the TFs' own emissions would prevent them from picking up the low levels that other TFs give off? The sensors are already being bathed in their own output.

Also, why did Sam have such a heavy exposure to the emissions? His parents had spent just as long hanging around near Bumblebee, and Mikaela had spent almost as long actually inside the car.

Plot gaffe again, I suspect, but what if that really heavy emission signature came from his great-great-grandfather's glasses, due to Megatron's imprinting on them, or something?

Personally, I think it has something to do with Sam shoving the Allspark into Megatron's chest. He could have gotten hit with a blast of it's power too. Not sure if that's what happened, but it sounds understandable to me.

I'm with you. Since he handled the AllSpark for so long, and held it while it released it's energy into Megs his exposure would be FAR more extreme than just being around/inside of BB and the others.

What about when ratchet sensed the con starting to mobilize? Soundwave has to have a cloak of ...sound... waves... or something?

Uhh... I'm talking about the middle of the movie, when S7 show up at the Witwickys' place. Sam doesn't shove the Allspark into Megatron for another hour or so...

I mean, it's possible that there's some sort of backwards-in-time radiation trace, but I don't think that's what you meant. :p

    ----

Going back to the subject of Soundwave's altmode, didn't Hasbro want him to be something genuinely sound-related, which was what stopped him being Blackout in the first movie?

I'm wondering about an AWACS plane. Admittedly, they don't really do audible sound, but they're built around the big, rotating antenna disk and the ability to broadcast/recieve signals... all of which also fits perfectly with Soundwave's role as communications officer, intelligence chief, and battlefield coordinator (especially, though not exclusively, for the mini-cassettes).

The one that stood out for me was the US Navy's E-2 Hawkeye. Airliner-based planes such as the E-3 Sentry are much bigger than any TFs we've seen (including the SR-71), but the E-2's size is more in keeping with the other Decepticon flyers (it's actually slightly shorter than the F-22, and around the same length as the Black Hawk).

Also (according to Wikipedia), it has a very distinctive engine noise, which seemed kinda appropriate for Soundwave.

I don't think they'll use it in the movie, but it's the sort of thing that makes sense to me.

Y'know, the staff have outright said no to some of the ideas brought up in this thread (such as the fact that the TC is incorrect, and that Soundwave is not a jet, or the Blackbird)...but they've not said anything about the osprey which was brought up earlier in the topic >_>

didn't orci say in his thread that in the original movie, barricade and frenzy evolved from the same character, who was originally envisioned as being soundwave, a military vehicle spy.. perhaps this is the source of the rumour, and that it is referring to early tf1 concepts, rather than tf2 facts
