In the past that the majority of the trailer's footage would make it into the film, this isn't the case these days. Due to the tight scheduling, the finished films are often not finished until a month before release, and so late edits can often remove scenes or replace with alternate scenes in the film. Or alternatively, some directors will film scenes just for the teaser and trailer footage pieces.

But that's true of pretty much all Transformers fiction. Cybertronians are typically violent, aggressive and barbaric by our western first-world standards, even compared to our warfare methods.

There's another way to read this: Prime is speaking of the entire Transformer race in the past tense. Cybertron is a "dead world", the AllSpark, which seems to be key to their ability to reproduce, has been lost for millennia, and the total known Autobot population is five.

It's a quiet rebuke to Ironhide, and it's typical of Prime that, once the message is delivered, he goes on to the "young race" comments, which reassure the Autobots that he didn't mean what they thought, and which also focus them on the positive: save the humans, as well as saving the AllSpark. Tucked away in that little speech is the emotional heart and hope of the movie, Prime's ability to look beyond the AllSpark (and the mess that Cybertron became) and defend life.

Wow, I never realized this until now. You have a great point. Especially since the line is coming from the bot who wanted to terminate Sam's folks because he deemed them "annoying". The line that kinda bothers me is one of Jazz's lines, soley because it sorta ruins a great moment. It's after the scene Windcharger described when Prime says "Autobots.....ROLL OUT!". They thought it was nice for Jazz to mess up the nostalgic feeling with "We rollin'". It really sticks out to me when I watch that scene cause it ruins the moment, imo.

There was a thread a while back about the worst movie lines, and that was one of the ones I chose for that very reason. There was no basis whatsoever for prime to call us violent in comparison to them. The only thing I can think of is how we treat hostile giant robots threatening our world. I think a little defense against that is called for, personally.

You know, I never thought about it this way. It would make more sense like that. Like if for example Prime followed that up with "Remember how we treated Botanica when she showed up from that expedition?"

They acquired all their knowledge from the internet.

During war, barbarism is one thing. Outside of war is when it gets frown upon. It's like a soldier killing during a war to protect life and his own vs a cold blooded killing for no reason.

When you look at the information on the net of how much we've murdered outside of wartime reasons, self mutilation, and even Jackass, we truly do appear more violent and primitive. As opposed to them, who are fighting a war for their freedom to live.

Yeah, we're the more primitive species in that regard. As stated by prime, they lived in peace till Megatron took over and went homicidal. That would assume barring their ancestry to reaching this golden age, they haven't been 'like us' for awhile in the aspect of killing in cold blood or through emotional driven reasons. They may have become more logic based in conjunction of freedom not impeding on another's freedom.

So in other words, even in our own culture, wartime acts are often overlooked, why are we calling them violent for their acts during war? When that's the only aspect of barbarism we see? Keep in mind, with decepticons, it's kill or be killed. They give no quarter. Nor do the autobots even have a place on earth for PoWs.

Excellent point Deadend. I never really thought too deeply into Ironhide's "Primative and Violent Race" quote given that I figured he was the pot calling the kettle black with Prime's response of "Were we so different?" --- But in the end run, Autobots and Decepticons, before they joined Megatron became said faction, were probably more peaceminded than the human race ever was before their Great War on Cybertron over the AllSpark.

Couldn't have said it better myself. =D

The thing is, many of their lines in that regard seem more sarcasm based. Even optimus made that comment himself. "What is with you? Autobots don't do that!" When Ironhide was talking about wiping out the parents who annoyed him. My guess is the abundant amount of sarcasm and irony on the internet entertained them to the extent they decided to use it to fit into this culture. xD

More proof of this is in Jazz's "what's crackin lil bitches" and prime's "My bad."

Personally, I'm hoping before TF2 hits, we'll finally get a director's cut of TF1 with some bot bloopers. Is it too much to ask for just a few Autobot/Decepticon bloopers? Or even some behind the scenes bot prima donnas?

Back to the topic at hand...

I think the line would of made no sense at that point. Everyone thought that it was a different country that was doing that to them. He didn't even want to believe Maggie when she talked about the computer organism... So him not knowing that it is a race from another planet...really doesn't make sense for him to say that line to the public.
