Considering what happened two years ago (Hasbro Germany guy told me he had seen the movie 1 toys during a phone call, got into deep shit with Hasbro US even though I had explicitly asked him at the beginning of the phone call to warn me if I wasn't supposed to talk about certain things in public), I'd say anyone who has seen the movie 2 toys by this point would probably be violating some sort of NDA by even admitting that he had seen them. (Same with a certain comic book writer and his mention of having read the movie script recently.)

Kinda splitting hairs on the titles, don't you think?

The bottom line is that the amount of screen time for our TF's was largely dictated by budget. We'd LOVE to hear a paradigm of the movie that uses that time wisely.

Yeah, I was splitting hairs on the titles but it wouldn't surprise me if someone actually tried to attack you about it just because I'm sure you've heard someone try to twist almost everything you've said online. I honestly was not trying to attack you. Like I said, I thought the amount of TF's on screen was fine. I even found the masterbation joke that everyone takes so much offense from actually funny since I picture my Mother saying something like that if she were a little tipsy (when I was a teenager).

    Dear Bob Orci,

Can we get some version of Gears in one of the Transformers movies? He's my favorite character!

Will Optimus still be ruthless and decapitate more Decepticons?

Well a few less parts per bots and then maybe there could have been more time for bots in the movie, but you guys have about as much control over the look as I do so lets go with just things writers have control over until directors and producers get mucking with things.

A shorter movie might have helped with some of the human cast cut out of the film. Sam was okay as the connection character and the soldiers were a nice touch as characters that could be moved around locations so that they could be in the middle east part of the film and then in the US for the rest of the film. The computer experts though felt more in the way of the movie than adding something to the movie. Things like the Indian phone rep just really felt like dead weight added for a bad joke.

The glasses and the cube also made the bots seem like they only had a one track processor. Glasses this, cube that, just didn't have enough other bits about the robotic characters because they could only think about the glasses and the cube so the robots felt less important than these two items.

A few little things to show the bots personality would have been nice as well. Prime could have saved someone other than just Sam to show he's the big metal Boy Scout. Would have been nice for Star Scream to have more to say. Seemed like Prime did just about all the talking for the Autobots and Megatron for the Decepticons so it would have been nice if some of that time could have gone to other robot characters providing a different view. Perhaps Ratchet telling Sam he's sorry about Iron Hide being gruff but he's a good bot at heart, or maybe the tank could have said the heck with the cube I only want to break Autobots.

Oh and it would have been nice to have borrowed the idea from the super hero films that only the Autobots can save the day. If the Autobots are the only one's that can save the day then they just feel more important even if there is a pretty big limit to just how much we can see of them.

Now that's the best answer I've heard in this entire thread. :lol  To be honest, I too would like to see the Decepticons outnumber the Autobots again. They have the better toys, IMO. :p  *runs*

:lolol  Prime never really had a mouth. Who knew?

Anyway, I'm not sure if you've ever answered some of my questions from the early pages of this thread, so I'll repost them again, just to be sure.

Have them talking to each other in vehicle mode. That's already established in the mythos, and I bet it's cheaper to shoot. :)

Mr. Orci, is it possible that we may see Smokescreen in the sequel? Thanks!

    1) Mr. Orci, who is you're favorite Transformer?

    2) I'm not trying to sound insulting, but have you ever thought about creating you're own property to write about? I love that you're doing great things with Transformers and Star Trek, but do you envision yourself writing an "ET" or "Indiana Jones" type story that you alone came up with. "Fringe" idea is being shown as JJ Abrams'. And if you have, I greatly apologize for my ignorance. What would you really love to write? Giant Monsters, Aliens, Romantic Comedy (j/k)?

That is one hell of a tip, and when done right, it's not even cheesy, but fucking awesome. Cheers.

Alex and I co-created Fringe with JJ. It's actually the second pilot Alex and I have created, but the first one didn't make it to the air. We are also currently trying to cast the first movie we ever sold, THE 28th Amendment, which was an original script we wrote at night while we were working in TV years back.

Just reposting my questions. Things get buried in this thread very quickly

First off, thanks for answering so many questions.

My question is this. How does the robot screen time in this one compare to the first? I'd say the robot screen time in this one was too short. This worked so well cause it built up the big reveal and the fight at the finish. But with the reveal gone, and the Transformers out in the public eye, that won't fly this time. How much more screen time and dialogue do they get, percentage wise? Ya know 20%, 50%?

Also, another question: Was the length of the transformation sequences something you guys wrote into the script? Any idea if the amount of time it takes a robot to transform will be shortened? If you have any influence in how they animate that, I would recommend you try and get the majority of the tranformations to take 3-5 seconds. Long transformations were cool for the first movie, but for the second, even casual viewers will begin to think, "hey, why don't they just wait for Optimus to be transforming and shoot him during that?" I imagine it'd save on CGI if long transformations were reserved for key moments or first time a character transforms. Plus it gives you the option of using the highly respected transformation sound without extra filler.

Think Barricade when he transformed to go chase Bumblebee. That was the coolest transformation in the movie to me.

hey, no complaints here, Prime is my fav. as well.

Sooo......is Megatron really Prime's blood or oil brother, or just a fellow "Cybertronian" who was an unfortunate casualty of war?
