You may not like those things, but they are logical.

I tend not to comment on other movies until some time has gone by.

We've had this argument so many times. To quote myself, there was ten times more transformers in the movie Transformers than there was shark in the movie Jaws. Same with Jurassic Park.

    Thanks. :)

There has been a recount from your screenwriters panel at BotCon that essentially stated this, but other BotCon attendeed questioned the last part, claiming not to remember having heard that bit. Thanks for clearing it up. :)

Haha... yeah, with the only little difference being that Jaws & Jurassic Park were well written movies that didn't aim for the lowest possible intellectual demographic, are absent of bad grade 5 urination & masturbation humor or haphazzard plot lines, were helmed by a respected director with an eye for story telling as opposed to mindless explosions and endless T&A shots, and didn't have 25 years of established history as toys, comics & cartoons behind them that got completely thrown out the window by a writing & directing team who evidentially knows nothing about the franchise they're working with beyond "robots that turn into stuff". But other than that, the comparisons to Jaws & Jurassic Park make total sense.

To be fair, when the script was written there was maybe 21 - 22 years of "established history" - which, surprisingly, is primarily utter cock that would never translate well to the big screen.

sorry about all the childishness in here Bob, we have people from all across the spectrum here

here's a question i'm pretty sure hasn't been asked before, what level of involvement do you have in the translation of the film used in the international dubs? texts are translated all the time, but do you allow for any change to accomodate different regions?

also, are you working on any other projects besides start trek at the moment? maybe some pet piece you're just throwing around to stretch out your creative muscles?

    cheers

I don't actually take the side of the person your stating this against, but the comparison isn't great in my humble opinion. Jaws' shark was a speechless animal- a monster who's motivation was to eat. Jurassic Park's dinos were again, speechless, simple animals. And, Jaws is not called "Shark" and Jurassic Park is not called "Dinosaurs".

That being said, I had little problem with the amount of Transformers in Transformers. I have my complaints, but the bots screentime wasn't really one.

Mr. Orci is taking some of his own time out of his busy schedule to come here and answer our questions; not to be insulted. either ask him questions or gtfo.

Knowledge of Transformers is not a job requirement in writing Transformers. Some of the best Transformers writing came from people who had relatively little knowledge of Transformers, or from times there there was not much history backing up the franchise.

Being too much of a fan of a franchise and not being able to seperate your work from your hobby can create a conflict of interest for a writer, particularly when you start putting in stuff that YOU and fans like YOU want to see and are familiar with, rather than what the general audience (the people who ultimately determine the financial success of your work) would understand and enjoy.

Wouldn't scanning a fossilized skeleton of a dinosaur result in a dinosaur skeleton robot? I think even that is pushing how 'magical' movie Transformers can be with regards to transformation given skeletons are... empty.

Well somehow they managed to make it seem like it was much more, Transformers failed to do that. Don't get me wrong, me and all my friends left the theater with big smiles on our faces the first time we saw it, but after time when by we all agreed that it could have been done much much better. And lets face it, you are no Steven Spielberg.

Ok, thanks. Now that I think about it more, that makes sense.

As for the whole argument over whether or not Dinobots would be logical, this is my personal opinion. It'd be great to at least have Grimlock in there, but it is a bit early to introduce a concept like that. The first movie was to get the average movie-goers attention, and now that they have that it probably wouldn't be a smart idea to introduce the concept of alien robots trying to disguise themselves as Dinosaurs. However, if the fandome could support a film on it's own, they probably would have made it into the first one, if not they'd make it in eventually. Personally I'm hoping that we at least get a movie styled Grimlock toy from Hasbro at some point. Would be kinda cool to see him in the game too.

To throw a bit more into this topic I think it comes down to feel. Even though you don't see that much of the shark in Jaws you always felt like the movie was about the shark. People talking about the shark, fearing the shark, or that feeling that the shark could show up at any moment when the movie went to the water.

Just none of that feeling with Transformers. Sort of like when the bots were out of sight they were out of mind.

Plus if you watch something titled Spider Man you expect Spidey and his villian to be the main focus not some glasses that lead to a magical cube. Or you expect to get that feeling that only Spidey can save the day. With Transformers I wonder if the Autobots were really needed for anything since the humans seemed able to lay the smack down on the Decepticons without any help.

Just a big let down to show up to see a movie about alien robots and instead you get a boy and car instead.

This reminds me of a quote from the original Battlestar Galactica, when one of the main characters is explaining the origin of the Cylons. He says "the Cylons built their robots in our form, because it is the most efficient form in the galaxy."

As to a question: um...Any chance on Ravage being in the movie, and having a panther altmode?
