You think combiner, you think one big bot with four smaller robots sticking out.
You gotta think bigger than that. There is more than one way to combine, and I think an advanced race of alien robots could find a way to mesh together a few robots without having any flagrant weak spots. If anything a combiner could, structurally speaking, be tougher and more durable than individual robots. Transformer fan trying to defend "Revenge of the Fallen": |

My reason for that is it lacks diversity to have 3 to 6 robots of the exact same theme (i.e. construction equipment) that really lacks the wow factor for average joes. If they do have a gestalt, it will probably be a combination of various characters (90% certain to be decepticon) that were not originally part of a gestalt team in G1, but will be a team in the movieverse.
I think the gestalts will be introduced in TF3, along with the Dinobots. The two factions compliment each other very well, and would require a major dose of suspended belief for the audience to rationalize (like Venom in Spider-Man 3).
I'm thinking (and hoping) the 2nd movie will mostly focus on Starscream and his empire, and at the end, Megatron is "reborn." The Decepticons got majorly short-shafted in the first movie. Rather than make the bad guys three dimensional (personality wise) Bay wasted time with masturbation jokes, stupid hackers, and a bunch of GI Joes that no one cared about. Bay owes the Decepticons big time.
I'm sure there will be autobots in TF2, but I hope the major focus is on the Decepticons. Think of it as a Transformers version of the 1989 Batman film, where Burton spent 90% of the film on Joker, 10% on Batman.
Epic FAIL!

I'm more interested in who the new Autobots will be. |
