It would be super funny if they really did that, wouldn't it? It would really screw with people's heads.
I didn't think it was that funny. I didn't think it was stupid or bad, but not very funny. That, however, was pretty darn funny.
The Onion is well funny, and regularly makes people think it's articles are fact due to it's subtleness of satire.
That's what makes it so great. An Onion article did the rounds at my workplace a few years ago, and as people were getting confused and riled up I calmly chuckled and pointed out the source. Then explained what The Onion was. Then loaded the website. After all of that we still had a hold-out that swore up and down it was real news.
tis a lot art. these young uns, you gotta practically spell it out for them. and even then they need the proverbial laugh track. the best bit is the fact that cross referencing contemporary/cultural reference qualifies for satire these days.
