Computer Graphics World July '07 answers some TF questions

I am not sure if this is posted, but the July issue of Computer Graphics World has BB on the cover. Inside it goes over all the things ILM had to do to make the bots look so real. It also gives a 3d description of some of the bots, like poly count and such. It's pretty interesting, and answers questions like why the bots look dirty and scuffed but the cars don't. It's a good read.

*Update* I made scans later in the thread.

EDIT: Here are some pics!

EDIT EDIT: I am bumping this zombie thread because I thought with some new people to the thread this may give some more people a chance to read this article.

I need a new sig. Could anyone make an Autobot out of a yellow 1980 Datsun station wagon or a black 1996 Nissan Kingcab pickup truck? PM me. Thx!

Truth was, the artists said that the stuido had to constantly polish the vehicles, so they tried doing that for the bots, but it just never looked real. They just decided to make more realisitc looking bots and said to hell with it. So, they just couldn't pull it off while keeping realiistic looking. Another interesting tidbit is that they worked scene to scene on the lighting- as long as each individual scene worked, they didn't try to make it flow perfectly with other scenes because the lighting was just so difficult.
