What a load of malarkey. This is why we can never have another G1 with actual alt modes. Cartoon writers don't have the budget to deal with auto manufacturers and their ridiculous demands.

I dunno. I feel the overall size and shape of Drift's new form is closer to his old form than Hound's is to his old one.

Man well screw hasbro if they just want to make a new toy. Just have soundwave come back to life! Well this is the first time I'm truly disappointed in something about a bay film.

This for me. It really bugs me, honestly. I mean, cool that Mercedes is taking an interest in the film, but it just does not work for me. I don't like the black and orange any better, the car looks like every other Mercedes, and it lacks that prescence the Veyron had.

I've always LOVED the Veyron. When I first saw it in action and heard how much horsepower and how fast it went, it was THE ultimate car in my 8-10 year old brain.

...and seeing it be replaced by a plain ol' Mercedes just ain't right.

So the Japanese character went from an Italian car, to a German car. still makes no sense.

Comments like these make no sense to me either. A japanese character voiced by a Japanese actor who is a samurai has to have a japanese alt mode? Other things aren't enough for you?

It's highly likely that it just wasn't available. The whole reason they changed from orange/black to blue/dark blue was that the orange/black Veyron was sold after the concept art and reveal were done.

Since the Veyron is no longer in production, it's highly likely that the ones used in AoE had also been sold. Although they could have potentially used a Chiron, it occurred to me earlier that that would look more at home in the Decepticon camp since it looks so vicious - the front end looks like it wants to eat you, the back end looks like it's grinning as if it just has.

I just wish it was Bugatti. Makes no sense for such a huge downgrade. And the make it even worse he's black and orange. Yes that was the orgin design but the blue and black look much more autobot.

Man! Wow! I think there might be a few other things you missed on the way! :lol

Honesty though, what does it matter? It's not like the Bugatti actully did anything cool. They should just make drift an old Nissan, and drive the shit outta it! They're too scared to get a search on these high end rocket cars!

Bugatti is actually owned by Volkswagen, so technically he was a German car before too. Originally the company was French though.

A Transformer scanning in a new alt. mode is a hell of a thing to get all worked up over and "disappointed" by but w/e, lol.

I think the issues are that

    * the car they chose, although it can drift, isn't the best choice for it
    * the original IDW version was a Japanese style car
    * he's a samurai. It makes sense that the vehicle mode is a Japanese car

With all of those considerations, the choice in AoE didn't make much sense.

The better question is, why isn't Drift a Japanese car like the Nissan GT-R? A samurai-former played by a (famous) Japanese voice actor that changes into a... European luxury sports car? OK. :D

That and the live action movies have yet to feature a Cybertronian with a Japanese vehicle alt mode. Five frikkin' films and it's all been American muscle and Euro exotics. C'mon, Bay, at least give a nod to the TF franchise's Japanese (vehicle) roots! It's not like Nissan has been playing hardball when it comes to licensing out their automobiles to the TF toy brand.

Plus if you're going to go full-on Japanese stereotype for a character like Drift, go in 100%! Don't half-ass it with the alt mode (or one-third-ass it since Drift is a triplechanger). :lol

So can we pull the "RUINED FOREVER" alarm now that TF5 is apparently committing an unforgivable crime by replacing a car with a different car?

If they did that then we'd be hearing complaints and rage about making Drift into more of a sterotype because he's a Samurai based character played by a Japanese actor with a Japanese car alt mode. I wouldn't mind that personally but knowing how people love to target specific characters in the movies and accuse them of being racial sterotypes making him have a Japanese car alt mode would only give them more fuel. It's a no win situation at this point because either way Movie Drift's going to be bashed upon for how he looks.
