Well that's not entirely fair. TF 1-4 are passable. At least they have passable moments scattered throughout the films.
If...and that's a mighty big if, TF5 is Dark Knight level of good my opinions of the previous movies won't change. I'll just be disappointed that it took Paramount 5 attempts to make a good TF movie; that's all.

    No.

Forgiveness implies being wronged in some manner. I was not wronged, just severely disappointed in the experience. Once the excitement from all the action fades, I'm just mostly empty of positive feelings for the movies and proceed into criticism mode. It's what I do. And why? Because they disappoint me in every other category. But disappointing me isn't wronging me in any way. I can't forgive past disappointments because there's nothing to forgive. It's just a matter of moving on and hoping they deliver a better experience later.

If we ever got something different and that something different was something I really enjoyed then at best I'd try to bury the previous films.

A bit like I enjoyed the original Star Wars films, I enjoyed the new Star Wars film, but I try really hard to block out anything about the prequel films because I didn't enjoy them.

Or like how I loved Deadpool but just because I loved the Deadpool movie that doesn't change my opinion that X-Men Origins: Wolverine was one of the worst films Fox did.

AoE was only marginally better than DotM. DotM was only marginally better than 2007. As long as we're only talking margins better, I'll be waiting for the reboot.

ROTF was utter crap but I can tolerate a bad film so long as cohesively the ongoing plot is decent.

AoE did the unforgivable sin of basically ignoring every goddamn plot thread possible from the end of DOTM by killing off a bunch of characters, retreating the humans are bastards plot driver (because the Autobots are only ever at a disadvantage because after the first film the humans will readily betray Autobots EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. At basically the command of the Decepticons who have proven they care nothing but the destruction of humanity/Earth and the humans never learn), and failing to give any meaningful character development to somebody OTHER THAN FUCKING PRIME who has survived to this point.

The series needs a reboot. This is not even in question, the TFCU is one of the most ill thought out ideas I've ever even heard of because why do something on that scale when 99% of the most famous characters in the franchise are dead already?

Well, I still think Revenge Of The Fallen's the weakest and the worst of the bunch.

Still 'Eh.' on Dark Of The Moon. Got sick of Sam by them. Though Sentinel Prime was awesome.

Age Of Extinction had at least achieved some steps towards being a little better than the others. The TF's - some of the obvious - had some personality to them. Lockdown was the most interesting antagonist out of all the Movie-Verse. Human characters still hit and miss. Rest as well.

But since I still love Movie 1, I'll forgive them just this once. Just this once. :p

    Well said.

I'd rather focus on if this new movie is actually good or decent.

Urgh. This poll is pointless. Your post is pointless. Everything about this is pointless, because you already know the answer.

This. I mean The Last Knight could do for the TF franchise what the fifth Fast and Furious movie did for it's respective franchise. I'm not without my own share of gripes with the movies but I do feel that AOE did some things in the right direction and if they built upon that that'd be awesome.

I assumed that some people would find the thread pointless but was genuinely curious to see if people's opinions of the previous four movies would change if the upcoming movies met their expectations. Seven people voted that they would forgive the previous four installments, which means this thread was not entirely pointless. I'm not a Bayformers hater so this wasn't just a "Michael Bay sucks" thread.

No. It ruined this brand. It slaughtered the image(s) of some of the most iconic characters of this brand. Bay will also not be forgiven for ruining TMNT, just like J. J. Abrams ruined Star Wars and... You guessed it! STAR TREK. 0/10 IGN, 0/8, M8.

I don't understand why a movie has to be "memorable". And what does that even mean?

I would be satisfied if the next movie is a combination of TF1 and TF3, with more coherency and less new characters to replace the ones that were killed "off-screen".

Memorable in the sense that you can look back on the film and say "man, that was a good movie" or "that's better than a lot of what they put out now and days". The Dark Knight is always brought up as being one of the best takes on a comic book property because it has memorable acting from Heath Ledger, a sophisticated tone and the sense that it does not have to feel campy or closer to what has been done before in order to be good. It may be a bit overrated, but I still find it to be a great film that I end up watching because of it's memorable aspects.

As far as I'm concerned, no matter how many live action movies they make, the original movie from 86 will always be the superior Transformers movie.

The idea that something is going to be the sort of film that will stand the test of time or that at least will be a cult classic that will live forever provides some level of comfort. It's just not a fun feeling that something you enjoyed could be swept aside and forgotten.

This entire post is weird. Dark Knight? Great film, but completely unfitting in tone for a TF movie -- more like suspense drama -- with action not being the movie's strong suit. If anything, there were almost more complaints about the way Nolan shot combat than Bay did.

And Ant-Man? I hate to say it, but I think the first three TF movies all handled the human drama story better than Ant-Man did. They are already more entertaining and memorable than Ant-Man was, imo. That's not praise for TFTM, RotF, or DotM. It's just that Ant-Man did it even worse. It's bizarre to me how forgiving people are of the Marvel Studios movies. I've been a Marvel reader since the 1970s and am a huge fan of the characters, but I think those movies are wildly overrated. Maybe my expectations of Transformers as a franchise are lower, but I've enjoyed all 4 of Bay's movies more than any of the Marvel Studios movies, with the possible exception of Winter Soldier and Guardians. And the best of those, Guardians of the Galaxy (imo) is only maybe a tie with the TF movies.

As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing to forgive.
