Can you imagine Star Wars 7 if bay directed it? Utter Failure.

Do you really think so? He might take some shortcuts here and there, but I think JJ's strengths lies in his ability to hold onto character arcs and story thread through all the blockbuster F/X and noise and corporate pressure. Something Bay probably isn't even interested in trying.

What we need is Bay to make a Mission Impossible. Then we could really have a valid comparison! :lol

Kind of seems like the trend is style over substance. Too many directors almost seem plug and play at this point because studios want a film that can produce cool looking trailers but beyond some bits that look really cool there isn't much going on with the mega insane budget films.

Perhaps the studios don't have to worry about anything being lost in translation if there isn't anything really worth translating?

It's still impressive that directors can herd the army of talent that work on the huge Hollywood films, but it seems like modern films just lack something. A bit like the Superbowl being hyped to no end but if you are a hard core football fan it's actually one of the worst games of the year when it comes to play.

With Snyder, I can imagine that Bumblebee's 'pee' would no longer being a crude joke, but a major plot point. :lol

get Orson Wells or Alfred Hitchcock; they are no more a fantasy to direct a TF movie than JJ or Spielberg.

No one and nothing is worse than Bay every single movie he makes has a formula explosions explosions bullet-time slo-mo explosions military might and American military prowess at least one gorgeous (or supposed to be gorgeous) overly made up broad who is always introduced to us in every movie ass first and the camera slowly pans up from her chest to her face and whose makeup never runs or comes off more explosions a ridiculous excuse for a plot and a happy ending just not literally In fact the opposite and yes this post was one gigantic run on sentence and that is exactly what every one of his movies is one big worthless waste of time run on sentence that everyone complains about but everyone still goes and pays money to see and hence they keep churning crap like this out. BAM

I think Uwe Bow and AIDS are worse than Micheal Bay, but apart from that, good point, interestingly made!

Hmm, I get your point.. I'm not a huge supporter of Synder by any means, but don't you find his white noise more interesting and stylistic? He's always looking for a new effect or visual technique, whereas bay is just, "this time I'm gonna blow even more shit up!!"

    Is it though?

I dislike Bayformers, but they're at least an entertaining romp for the most part, minus ROTF. I'm not bored watching them. Snyder's downfall is his plots, which he spends so much time on that by the time he gets to the action, I've lost all interest. And does he really look for new effects or visuals? I mean Snyder hasn't really evolved much in visuals since Watchmen. I like Watchmen, but I'd take Bay's filmography over Snyder's any day of the week at this point.

Sort of like the TF films have been an utter failure? How much different do you really think it would be? The plot was already in shambles with JJ at the helm, so it's not like he could have screwed that up. Nobody had much of a "character arc" because we're not allowed to learn anything about anyone until episode VIII. It was already full of explosions and disorienting action scenes. We even got a little "military is awesome" moment when the X-Wing squadron showed up. Poe and Finn would have a little more testosterone and Rey would wear less. Maybe there would be a poop joke somewhere. That's about it.

Comparing Pearl Harbor to Sucker Punch I think you have a point. Bay has a lot weak points as a film maker but at least he attempts to inject things like humor even if the jokes fall flat for some people. It seems like there is at least an attempt to make characters human even if they aren't always well crafted or round characters.

Oh Uwe Boll and MANY others names could be added to the list my friend. I'm a cinephile. I grew up in the 80's and most of my favorite movies came from 1980-1998. Not to say that there are no good movies anymore but I feel like back then movies were made to tell a story primarily with profits obviously a priority but not forsaking the material to make more of them. I feel like the directors and cinematographers and producers had more say so and influence of their art to preserve the balance between profits and the story they wanted to tell. Nowadays it's (for the most part) profits first... Period! From casting choices (put Will Smith or the Rock or Justin Beiber in everything regardless of whether he's the best fit for the character because it will draw people to the theater to see that "actor") to script or plot. Hence the sequels and prequels. If the property is hot and the original movie made money then this movie will make money too regardless of what crap we film. The newest Star Wars was the original Star Wars all over again? I feel like Mugatu... Porche, Carerra, El Tigre! All his faces are the same! How does no one see this! I feel like I'm taking crazy pills or something! Even directors that I once idolized and felt were immune to this behavior have caved and jumped the shark. I mean Ridley Scott??? He was once one of my favorite directors. Alien, Gladiator, Matchstick Men, Black Rain, Legend. I could go on forever. Now crap like The Prometheus? The man said he'd never do sequels now he's doing prequels and sequels? He said there would be NO Xenomorph in Prometheus, but the studio made him put one in there. He tried waaay too hard with The Counselor too. I get what he was going for but it was just boring and I never need to see it again. I could re-watch all of his older movies 1,000 times. He's catering to the guys with the money, not his art. At least he was good once. Uwe Boll, Zack Snyder, Bay these guys never were. Bay just chaps my ass the most because he makes the most money of them all and he is the biggest pompous and entitled prick of them all. Everyone can argue that his movies are empty eye candy with no substance or plot, but then he can turn around and say "yeah but how many people went to see it and how much money did I make?". I want to stab him in the face with a soldering iron! I will admit that I did enjoy the first Transformers movie though. MILDLY.... Yet I've seen it once in the theater and once on cable. Never even bought the Bluray so It wasn't THAT good IMHO. I do enjoy re-watching the scene with Blackout at the military base on Youtube from time to time.

Synder is great visual director that doesn't actually have a vision of his own. All style, zero substance.... so he's just a less hated Bay.

Yeah.. I don't know which way to move on this. Watchmen is awesome, but it's probably the only Synder movie I really genuinely like.. and that's only because it's so faithful to the comic.. and I never really had any opinion on bay until he, from my perspective, undermined the Transformers legacy. But, I can honestly say I find Synders action more fun.. but then if you're into more sorta straight up military bravado, Synders not gonna touch bay.

I'm gonna walk away from this discussion until I see BvS, I'm a huge Batman fan too! :lol  to be continued!

But It's soo good though! I'm sorry, you can point out the flaws, and I might agree, but I'm not gonna budge on this. I think TFA is amazing, and I think JJ is the reason. Although, if Bay made the StarKiller blow up, I mean, wow! He'd spend half the budget on making a real one, and blowing it the hell up! :lol

Apart from the bit about Star Wars 7 (which I love) this is basically paraphrasing the conversation me and my best buddy have over and over again! In fact, I'm gonna message him now, and ask him if he's you! :lol

Lol! Glad I'm not really taking crazy pills then. There are more like minded meat popsicles out there. Don't get me wrong I didn't dislike Star Wars TFA. In fact I saw it twice in the theater. Once in regular and once at IMax. I just really wanted something new and refreshing. I didn't get it. I was however entertained and the last scene with Luke on the cliff gave me a tingle up my spine and made me feel like a kid again for a few seconds. I am holding out hope for the future incarnations but this offering disappointed me is all.
