just a question for those that are skipping or considering skipping the next movie, just out of curiosity, if TF5 comes and by some miracle gets more positive/okay word of mouth and less negativity than the other films. would you re-consider your decision to skip it, or you will skip it anyway (if so why)

if you know me well you know i am gonna see the movie either way and enjoy the heck out of it

Keep the conversation civil and respect other people opinions.

I'm pretty much done with the TF films since they've pretty much gone and made it as ill-fitting to the franchise name as possible (impossible designs which can't even legitamately transform but make terrible shellforming toys if they're not even trying to be vehicular alt. modes, humanity is literally so stupid that they keep betraying the only people that can save them from the Decepticons every goddamn film, and there's no point in killing Megatron anymore since he'll just come back to life in the next film).

Oh, and there's no plot direction, either, because The Creators are not defined as to who they are or what they actually want. I could say the Creators want Optimus Prime to make infinite fried cheese sticks for them to fill the universe with, and nobody can tell me this is not exactly what is going to happen, because that's how lousy "The Creators" are as a concept to build a sequel off of.

Positive reviews mean nothing at this point - even if they polish this turd of a series, it's still a turd to me.

"Less negativity than the other films" is a little too relative for my tastes.

Regardless of how negative the reviews are, I'll probably still go see it.

    Yeah, I went there...

I'll probably still watch it or at least read about it despite reviews.

I'm still seeing it either way though I wouldn't at all be shocked that even if it turns out to be the best in the series, critics and most die hard haters would still write them off because of Bay being part of it and that's it. I know that's an extreme thing to say but knowing how American media works often,it wouldn't be that far off.

I don't trust my gut feeling so if the reviews started rolling in and it was all gushing about how they turned everything around into something great then yea I'm at the theater opening weekend.

I'm going regardless of any reviews. It's Michael Bay we're talking about. About the only good reviews he's gotten are for The Rock and 13 Hours.

TF1 got some pretty good reviews and I still hated it, so a Bayformers movie getting praise doesn't mean much to me. I'd certainly raise an eyebrow and start checking some relatable people's opinions if it did, but I won't guarantee I'd bother watching it. Bay would likely have to be shadowplayed/gagged, bagged, and hauled away before I put any optimism into a Transformers movie again.

There is no miracle to expect - because they consiously choose Bay to do pretty much the same Bay thing again.

You can expect the same kind Bay TF movie with the same kind of movie reviewer reactions.

If you wanted any chance at a miracle decent review from the movie press ; that would only have been possible with a major reboot with a brand new director.

I really can't imagine such a scenario occurring. I don't skip the movies, so I guess this thread isn't really directed at me, but I've always waited for the home releases before I watch these movies, usually just borrowing a copy off a friend or waiting for it to go on discount, so I dunno if a load of positive reviews would urge me to change that habit.

I suppose if an unnatural number of positive reviews cropped up in many different sources I might at the very least look forwards more to eventually seeing the movie than I usually do, but it would have to be a lot of positivity to make me think something significant had happened to the BayFormers movies to compel me to change how I first view them.

So far all the studio has done is minor little changes that haven't really changed anything. Hey we don't have this actor any more so it's going to be different next time. Hey we got rid of two questionable robots so everything is going to be different. Having a writers room just feels like another minor thing where they can spin no change into the hype of there will be some big change.

Any real change will have to be an order from the top of the studio. Right now it feels like the studio executives have been way too timid with we want the domestic numbers up but we wet the bed at night in fear that any change might hurt our foreign numbers.

I also think it's going to take some changes in who produces the films and not just writers, the director, or actors. Some of the current producers would totally be against any sort of change because it would be a blow to their ego to say hey maybe I'm not always right.

^Regarding this recent Writers Room thing and Hasbro's supposed
    increased involvement :

All it means is that Hasbro is making sure that :

    A. a certain amount of TF characters appear in the movie ; because they need to sell toys of said characters. They don't want to repeat the AOE imbalance ; which leads to shelfwarmers.
    B. Hasbro needs to make sure that whichever TF character appears
in the movie translates well into a transforming toy. Ergo ; Transformium bullshit morphing should be out.

And that is I think, the maximum extent of influence Hasbro will exert to this movie. Don't expect it to be a better TF movie just because of this.

This is Transformers we're talking about, not The Lego Movie.

Because if you're seriously saying Lego bricks are now a hallmark of a Transformers film, then The Lego Movie is by far the best film of the franchise.

Which is impressive given Hasbro didn't make The Lego Movie.

    You're moving the goalpost.

Nonetheless, Kreo Transformers are officially part of the brand now and have been for years. It makes sense to incorporate them into the films and the KSI/Transformium process does so quite well. Just like Combiners, Headmasters, Pretenders, etc., it's simply an extension of the line, not a replacement doing away with "mainline" Transformers completely.

You do understand that Kre-O is barely even a thing at retail stores, anymore, right? The 2015 stuff only popped up at discount stores like TJMaxx in the latter half of the year and 2016 has nothing regarding known Kre-O releases.

But sure, it makes total sense for off-brand LEGO bricks to be more of a featured gimmick of a multi-million dollar film franchise...even though they don't even sell the damn things anymore. Must have been the same geniuses who thought up non-transforming Transformers would sell like hotcakes back when Action Masters was trying to be a thing.
