Sure...but MY biggest complaint about the movies is that they pander to the whiners too much and don't have ENOUGH sexuality or offensive humor.

I feel the best films find a way to thread that needle between making the old fans feel like the film is all about them while the new people feel like the film was all about them. Jurassic World has so many Easter eggs, nods, references to Jurassic Park and other things that an old fan could easily be mistaken to think the new film was all about them. But new fans to the Jurassic franchise aren't going to lost just because they don't know the gates or the old jeep.

Yea it's possible to go too far with for the fans. If you had not watched all the episodes of Firefly then you'd totally and completely lost attempting to watch Serenity. But you also see films that haven't done well because they dumped the old fans to be hip, new, and cool. Transformers just happens to be a brand lucky enough to drop the old fans without taking too big of a hit at the box office.

Would more G1 make the movies better or worse, my goodness who knows because we are talking about a film that might not ever get made. But I don't think you have to slavish G1 to produce something that an old fan could feel comfortable with. Beast Wars, Animated, Prime, there are a lot of series that haven't been slavish G1 but still felt like it was somewhere I belonged as a fan. Honestly my big problems with the film aren't that it's not G1 but it's just not good films with the sort of characters I can get into.

I dunno, out-sequeling Police Academy doesn't seem to be hurting Fast and the Furious' returns any.

For the latter, I recommend Porky's.

No, I'm sure it won't flop. AOE was one of the most mussecful film franchises ever. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films
Dark of the Moon is number 11 and Age of Extinction is 14.

    I agree.

I'll reiterate my previous point, if that is what you seek the the film Porky's has a wonderful and hilarious variety of both. Actually so does Golf Balls - that one I think had actual Penthouse models in it - and dozens of other movies better suited to such things.

Seriously though, Porky's is one of the funniest movies you'll ever see.

Yeah, but Porky's doesn't have giant fucking robots so that kinda holds it back.

What about 21 Jump Street then since Channing Tatum might be a robot, well a brobot at least.

I think Lassie more than makes up for the lack of robots.

I genuinely surprised this hasn't been locked because this thread was obviously not meant to discuss anything. It was just posted to piss some people off and start arguments.

Yeah, I've been endorsing that stance since Page One, but I'm kinda glad it's been allowed to grow and take the direction it eventually did anyway, lol.

The OP is right on one thing though...there will be people who bash it regardless of its quality. Some will go into the film with an open mind, and they won't like it. That is perfectly fine; we should go into new films with open minds regardless of whether we end up liking them or not. However, there is definitely a chunk of both professional critics and fans on this site and others who will hate it for simply existing. Judge a film on its own merits. Don't judge it because you would prefer a reboot, or because your favorite G1 character isn't present, or you want these films to stop being made, or because this isn't the Transformers film you would have made, or because it's cool to hate Bay or Age of Extinction or the Transformers series as a whole. I'm going to a film to view someone else's vision of Transformers and not my own. I judge films based on the execution and not the existence.

As franchises go on I think it just gets harder and harder to say I'm going to overlook the other films and try to go in 100% open minded. Once something happens enough times it's natural to start expecting things, sort like if the neighbor's dog bit you Monday to Thursday you wouldn't expect the dog not to bite you Friday because he was wearing a different collar.

In a way it seems like you also just sit people up for disappointment to say well maybe this time will be different. Seems like we've been down the maybe this time will be different road a lot to still be stuck at the same people who love the films and the same people that don't. The needle just doesn't hardly move so it's just not a safe bet that somehow the 5th film will change people's opinions.

I know some people like to say well people just aren't being fair, well critics just hate it because it's Bay, people slam the films because it's what the cool kids are doing, and so on, but perhaps people have looked at the flaws and merits of the films and found them lacking. Back when I was in school it wasn't the teacher was being mean to give my paper a bad grade it was just that it was a poorly written paper that I turned in.

Until something substantially changes we are just stuck where we are at. Right now the films just aren't giving people a reason to move from unhappy to happy. A little change and a little change there just isn't cutting it.

    Welllll, not so much.

Thankfully, the VAST, OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of Transformers movie fans pay to see these films AGAIN AND AGAIN because they are AWESOME.

Anyone who chews sour grapes over that has quite simply been MASSIVELY outvoted.
