We will never get a reboot because for some reason Paramount hates us, well hates us slightly less than GI Joe fans. Looking at how badly GI Joe needed a reboot and couldn't get there is no way to get a reboot out of Paramount until some leadership or something changes to say hey it's okay to reboot everyone else does it.

But yea the villain well is getting pretty dry. Starscream's dead, Soundwave and most of his minions are dead, they wasted Shockwave for nothing, granddaddy of the combiners is dead. Transformers wasn't exactly hitting on many lieutenants to begin with and now it's going to scrapping up the goons, thugs, and lackeys to fill the roster. Provided it's not just more nameless genericons and Galavatron. Oh and I've always hated Galavtron as a character so that is another strike right there.

We are stuck with what we are stuck with and any hope of change is just a false hope that's going to break your heart. Once Paramount has killed off all the G1 Decepticons I'm guessing it will be down to killing off Engergon, Armada, and Cybertron Decepticons so Prime and the humans can get in their required kills per film.

The 80's are what STARTED this franchise. Why SHOULD we let it go? Hell, I would LOVE a reboot that had MP-level designs, that were more G1-ish. You could set it in the 80's so the licensing would work again, you can tell who each character is. Call it "Transformers: Origins" or "Rise of the Transformers" or "Transformers: Generation One" lol. Look, you already HAVE the marketshare with people who paid to watch the first 4 movies. Those who had never heard of TFs now know about them. Let's give the fans that have been there from the beginning, what they always wanted in a TF movie. I was SOOO hyped for the 2007 movie....until I saw the designs.. and the director.. and the movie itself with urination jokes and no TFcharacterizations. Try something DIFFERENT. That is what TF brand has been good at.

Your entire post negates itself with your comment at the end.

Because the first part of post doesn't sound like you don't want to try anything new at all and just want to ride on 30 years of nostalgia.

And... that's not how licensing works either. They would still have to get, you know, licenses.

The point is Brittany, is that those that think Hasbro "hates you" are the ones I described because it's not how they want it. It's like they have some sort of list and a Hasbro exec is saying "fuck you, fuck you, fuck you" down a list of G1 fans out of spite.

Here's the real truth of it. Hasbro has listened. They got a team together to write new films and we don't even have details on that yet. Let's noo-hot give it a fair shake first, yeah?

    Nah.

But I'm sure it will end up the same way in regards to the "true fans" because it's not "Geewun enuff."

No, dummy.. DIFFERENT from the current set of movies. And you need to respect our 30 years of nostalgia, sir. It is because of that nostalgia we even have movies and toys and new shows still. Without us Geewunners, there is NO you. What I am saying, is that I would love a reboot, because TONS of people on this earth who have: spent a ton of money from 1984 until now, loved the franchise enough and supported it enough to keep Hasbro making toys and shows saw the movies and were like... crap.. this is what we got from a live movie? :(

AND.. if you were around in the 80's, and liked the same kinds of thing you like now, you would probably have been a GEEWUNNER too... What else are you passionate about that if you really wanted something so badly to happen, and then it does and its really different from what you were expecting, you would be disappointed too?

It doesn't have to be set in the 80's, but I love the idea of modern day G1. By that I mean, taking the far more easily identifiable G1 characters and modernizing their looks. I'll use Swipe as an example. In G1, you could always tell which Bot Sideswipe was. The sculpt of his head, the broadness of his chest, his shoulder cannon, his cherry red and black coloring and his familiar Lamborghini alt mode. He's a solid, loyal warrior with a bit of a sassy personality. In Bayverse, Swipe is unrecognizable. He has none of his familiar characteristics, and his personality is more like Sunny's. Instead of his iconic Lamborghini mode, he's a Corvette Stingray (which is far more suited for Tracks). He doesn't have his unique head sculpt (horns and all), his height and width are off and he's a boring chrome silver instead of his signature cherry red. For me, he just was not Sideswipe.

Now, I know it's going to be said that it's difficult to film a red robot. I call hogwash on that. Dino, Stinger, Sentinel and even Prime prove that it can be done. There's no reason that the robots iconic G1 features couldn't be updated to modern day, without losing the familiarities that set them apart from each other. The ONLY exception to that, for me, would be Bumblebee. Beetles just do not scream badassery. In my opinion, they're more fit for a Femme then a Mech.

this film animation can be an invisible reboot.
opening up possibilities and different directions of what was presented.
and the public will not mind.

No, if Paramount really cared, they would have ditched Kruger - the dude's previous script works were horror films, not sci-fi. He was without question a bad choice and the fact he wrote more TF films after the disaster that is ROTF's plot remains to this day in question as to why he was allowed to keep going. The man himself even admitted he doesn't even fully outline the plots before working on the full drafts.

And yet Battleship failed by trying to go that route of copying what Paramount thought was working for TF's.

That's where a key problem is with everybody constantly trying to think of the movies as the highest priority over everything else - THIS IS A FRANCHISE THAT ABOVE ALL ELSE IS SUPPOSED TO SELL PLASTIC ROBOT TOYS.

The Decepticons only exist because they're necessary adversaries for the Autobots. The entire premise of Transformers is a civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons - kids are going to want the bad guys if for no other reason than for the good guys to kick their ass by recreating what the media has those characters doing. Sure, there are some unaligned guys but excluding the ones that aren't aimed purely at collectors, all that category has is Lockdown who is only technically a Decepticon for the sakes of selling toys of him (given he's supposed to be a bounty hunter, the 'Cons just hire him far more often), and Unicron is literally the most evil thing in existence so as far as that goes, it's him vs. every other Transformer there is.

Now, this is where AoE screwed up: where are the toys of the guys all those Autobots actually fought? There was one deluxe of Lockdown (which is crap), one Voyager of Galvatron (of which I don't know the quality of)...AND LITERALLY NOBODY ELSE. No toys of generics, no toys of Cemetery Wind losers, just two bad guys who didn't even really work together in the film either. And kids won't want more Autobots without more Decepticons - it's not as much fun when the autobots hold the numerical advantage because there's only two bad guys...if they were even lucky enough to find them at retail at all!
DOTM ending: 200+ Decepticons still at large all over the planet.

AOE: THEY'RE ALL FREAKIN' GONE. And given how scattered and disorganized the surviving Autobots are, it's unlikley they were the ones who killed all the 'Cons.

But Lockdown was sold as a Decepticon, an important detail to consider.

Again, this is where the fact this is a toyline centric franchise means no Decepticons is an actual problem and not featuring them as the bad guys is a guaranteed failure.

Good and evil characters need to be put into the toylines such that they can balance out distribution and encourage more toys to be sold. After all, if the Autobots suddenly got this giant new megabase playset, kids are gonna want the Decepticon giant megabase playset to scale up the living room battles even more. That is the importance of generics in the toy lines - simply adding to the size of the armies so they're more equaled out, which in turn means a more intensive fight, regardless of how many individually named character toys are involved.

Nah, they'll just turn Megatron into Ultron at that point where he just makes armies of himself, since I figure they'll realize killing-and-then-resurecting him constantly is idiotic and cheapens every successive death.

So? If the only way to avoid a reboot is to keep shoving films between that Cybertron Prequel and the first movie...how is that at all better than just doing a hard reset and starting over from scratch again?

The problem is not how the films can't use the characters again in anything, the problem is any further progression in the series timeline can not include them.

Well of course it sold better than any non-Movie year: non-Movie years don't have a massive media push behind them.

And AoE being a down toyline is bad no matter how you look at it. The movies are supposed to be the real moneymakers in Hasbro's eyes, because of the toy sales that the films drive. If a movie line fails, that is a problem because nobody sane is going to suggest trying to just let the film toys ride like that again, there is a problem as to why the toys didn't sell as well and that problem needs to be fixed.

The answer to this problem is change the freakin' series. It's been a near decade, the target market for the original movie has long since grown up, and people are sick and tired of the TF films literally being the same stuff over and over of Optimus just mass murdering everything. Oh, and Megatron getting a free pass to come back to life every other film, making killing him at all entirely fucking pointless since he's just going to come back again, but now that he's done it twice, it further is pointless to just kill him for good because who the hell spends six long-ass films watching the same guy rip Megatron to shreds, only for Megatron to come back to life for no reason of importance to the actual plot, before finally dying...except people won't be sure if he won't just come back again anyway.

    Right.

Because less bad guys to sell as toys is totally expanding a toy-based franchise.

Because bastardizing the Terminator franchise for years totally hasn't been a constant problem for Paramount, no sir.

Combiner Wars show? Combiner Wars doesn't have a show.

What good is a TFCU four-movies into a dead-ending franchise when all the characters not from AOE who people cared about are dead?

That actually only justifies a reboot as being the better course of action. They can still do their pointless TFCU attempt to copy Marvel's successful formula, but instead of doing the absolutely brain-dead idea that a linear plotline can somehow explode into a multi-threaded series of interconnected films, they can actually plan that shit out from the beginning and they have the full roster of characters to use to provide big name recognition assistance.

Actually, because the VW Beetle exists more or less because of Hitler, VW has been staunchly against anything involving that car series with "war toys" - this is why Alternators New Beetle BB does not exist.

How the hell Takara managed to get approval for MP Bumblebee for the alt. mode license is beyond me, but I think it has something to do with the toy not having a weapon whatsoever.

Yeha i forgot about Kruger, i was going to mention him in the post, but i forgot by some reason, but yeah if the deadline news is true (as i am questioning it now thanks to a tweet from one of the writters) the fact we have Kruger out, is a good sign. but we will see how TF5 turns out.

i was not reffering to those generic nameless Decepticons, i meant decepticons that we havent been introduced yet in the movies like Thundercracker, Skywarp, Sunstorm, Skyquake, Dirge, Overlord, Cyclonus, Makeshift, Underbite, Icepick, Jetblade, Scourge, Kickback, Bludgeon, Airachnid, Stunticons, Acid Storm, Detour, Combaticons, Bombshell, Lugnut, Fearswoop, Nightstick, Overkill, Thunderwing, Runabout, Runamock, Straxus, Blitzwing and many others. they have a huge library of Decepticons that havent appeared in the movies that could be used in future sequels and spin offs

In the toyline, not the movie. as i was talking about the movie.

I know that you were asking Autobot Burnout, I hope you don't mind me piping up   There's nothing wrong with introducing new characters. Hell, I actually liked Jolt and Dino. For me, I just want far more accurate representations of the characters I came to love in G1. Bring on some new characters, but keep the G1 characters recognizable with modern updates.

Actually, what ROTF shows is that there's a Matrix of which the Primes' sparks/lifeforces/whatever are still a part. Leastwise I didn't see Jazz wandering around in the background during Sam's near-death experience.

Honestly, at this point I think they really should just use new character names across the board anyway instead of using old ones.

That's the problem with this franchise, you guys expect everyone to respect G1. Why should I respect the nostalgia I have no nostalgia for.

That's not how nostalgia works, cupcake.

For some people, the Bay films are their G1.

Sideswipe is the badass rollerblading-blade wielding silver 'Vette.

He's very identifiable on screen. Maybe take off the nostalgia glasses and you'll see him.

The problem is, you guys keep expecting to see something that isn't there. Sideswipe is more identifiable by his mode of transportation alone than any other Autobot. Yes, there are times on screen it's difficult to see who is who, especially in combat situations, but in the end it all works out.

Again, not my point though. Hasbro has listened, taken the time to hire 12 writers and they've brained stormed. And it's still "Hasbro hates us!"

Nothing could be further from the truth.

You don't have to like G1, you don't have to like Diaclone. However, without them, you don't have the movies, cartoons and toys of today that is your "G1". It's just having a little respect for where this franchise began, that's all. :)

Don't worry. It's getting a reboot sooner or later. My guess is after 2017, when the film bombs at the box office.

I'm actually really curious about them NOT just rebooting the franchise. I really do want to see where things go, even if its the gutter, or even if its a rise in quality. To me, AOE has left an interesting premise behind it. I'd much rather see what, if anything, can be built on that instead of the franchise being rebooted and we get the same "Autobots team up with humans to stop Decepticons" story we hear again and again. Least for now.

Respect is one thing, but I will say the adoration it receives can be very grating for those who don't look upon it with the same level of enjoyment. Hell, I once enjoyed it for what it was, but the fandom's constant worship and displeasure with anything NOT like G1 has eroded that feeling and left it a burnt, grumpy distaste for it.

Yeah, I get it. No G1, no movies, but at this point? Some SELFISH part of me, and I know I'm being unreasonable, I'm aware of that, some selfish part of me is completely willing to sacrifice any part of the Transformer franchise if it means people will stop talking about G1 like it was God send.

And again, I know I'm being unreasonable and immature. I'm aware of how stupid I sound. But at this point, I've gotten such a vitriol response to it, its become like anti-nostalgia to me. The mention of G1 gets me annoyed and is usually the reason for why I ever take breaks from this fandom.

Sorry for the rant. Really just needed to get that off my chest. Feel free to ignore me.

Wrong. Sideswipe is not a new character, like say, Jolt. He is a character from G1, like Optimus, with an iconic look and personality. Would you change Optimus from a Big Rig to a small box truck? Would you change his iconic red and blue to just a plain off white? No you wouldn't because that would take away from that familiarity and instant attachment to the character. Simply put, he wouldn't be Optimus. The same goes for the Core characters who came from the same place as Optimus.
I'm not saying the silver Corvette Stingray or the robot who chose that alt mode weren't cool, he was just better fit for a Bot like Tracks, then for Sideswipe.
You can have all the new, cool characters you want, that's fine. Just leave the familiarity of those robots that came from G1. There can and should be a compromise between lifelong fans and new fans within the movie universe.

No. Because someone would have come along and done it eventually.

I see people all the time on this forum talk about showing their kids G1, and if it's not liked, they're not pleased because they feel that their childhood should be respected by their child.

My son loves Power Rangers. I showed him the first Power Rangers. He wasn't fond of them. Loved the Dinozords, but flat out said the dinos in Dino Charger are far better. And I disagree. But I didn't tell him that. I didn't force him to respect anything. I wasn't even upset he thought otherwise.

Likewise, I also see parents with kids who show them G1 and the kids love it. That's great, but the "respect" has to come if they want to provide it.

I was born in the 1980. Watched G1, thought it was pretty lame. Beast Wars was what got me into Transformers. Not G1. I was too busy into Voltron and Centurions.

And speaking of Voltron, I watched that "reboot"/continuation, Voltron Force and I loved it. I thought the fresh, new ideas of having different Lion Centers was great, Flash Formation, etc. Only bad thing was it was cancelled.

And in regards to movies? I love Assassin's Creed. More than any franchise out there. New movie coming out, not about Desmond or Altair. And I think that's great. Because I've already played Assassin's Creed. I want to know new and different stories, not the same rehash from it's roots (read: 30 years ago.)

I'm not afraid of new and different things. I tend to pick what I like and roll with it. I'm not adamant on keeping things the way they were, especially 30 years ago.
