With the current trend in doing period action films (The First Avenger, Agent Carter, X-Men First Class/DoFP/Apocalypse, Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes and The Man from UNCLE), I think it would be nice to see a TF film set in a past era. The past films have already featured brief scenes of past eras (1890s Arctic, ancient Egypt, 1960s America, prehistoric Earth), so it's possible the TFCU will do a full-length period piece.

But what era (time/place) would you ideally like to see a period TF film?

Ideally, I'd like to see one of the following:

Prehistoric era - Dinobots waging war with the Creators in the Jurassic era.

Feudal Japan - Transformers could be taken for armored yokai or something.

1850-1915 - This was the time of the Industrial era in Europe. They could adapt the HEARTS OF STEEL concept into this era, with Autobots/Decepticons becoming blimps, trains and carriages. I'm also a steampunk fan, so Transformers in that design would rock.

1940s - World War 2. The best era for combat machinery.

1960s - one of the most swinging and stylish times, and ironically a time also of the Cold War, atomic science, and high-level espionage.

1980s - This would be so fitting, and so awesome.

Does anyone have any specific historic era that you'd like to see the Transformers in?

I mean, all the stuff you mentioned is pretty spot on. I think the 1980's would be amazing, considering G1, would be funny too if they added the blocky g1 designs to the characters for a 1980's era film. A world war 1 or world war 2 era Transformers film has always interested me. Seeing the autobots and the decepticons battle it out in that era of vehicles would be AWESOME! Also a Dark Ages film. Considering the knight theme that AOE played off of, it would be interesting to see the Transformers in the ACTUAL dark ages.

Hearts of Steal would definintely be cool. Steam punk transformers would look badass. I'd love to see a Transformer ironclad sea battle, that would be something new...

Hearts of Steel would definately be cool, although I think it might be better as a top end 2D animation.

This HoS starcream looks great (this drawing was done by someone called kingbirdkathy) but I'm not sure if he's fighting Autobots, or chasing a pigeon! lol

I was going to say that. I'd love a HOS movie. Especially if they took the HOS designs and added just a little bay former asthetic to it.

I'd happily take a well animated version as well.

World War II would be a good setting. Lots of military vehicles to chose from and it would be pretty cool to have the Transformers battle between good and evil happen at the same as humans were locked in a battle of good and evil.

The 1950s. Autobot hot-rods (as opposed to Autobot Hot Rod ;)  ), Decepticons attempting to siege nuclear test sites, giant-Insecticon rampages, Cold War paranoia extended to the fear that your neighbor's car might be watching you...

World War II and a Cold Wars 80's.

the last part could be a neat way to homage G1 with it taking place in 1984.

There's definately something interesting there. Wars are rarely about good vs evil, Sure hitler was a bit of a c*** but most German/Japanese soldiers in WWII were exactly the same as their British/American counterparts. Normal men and women forced or fooled into fighting for a flag. Be incredible to actually see this theme through the Decepticon ranks. Cons who aren't raving dribbling lunatics, but simple bots who bought into the spiel (pun intended!) and took up arms against their cybertron brothers. Patriotism and nationalism are powerful tools used and abused regularly by unscrupulous leaders on both sides of every war. Be good to see how Megatron uses it too. Imagine the Cons join sides with the axis and some cons witnessing Hitler and stopping in their tracks, "hold on!? We're on this guys side?! When did we become the bad guys?!"

    Plus awesome WW2 altmodes :D

WW2 would be an interesting vehicle era for sure. But for the love of Unicron, have much less human storyline. I came to see a Transformers movie. Not a romantic, family struggle type film.

Well, there'd still be a ton of action! ;)  But yeah, a couple of humans to give a sense of scale, but keep the emotional struggle contained between the bots interactions with each other!
