Movies seem to be doing a whole "Passing the torch" thing lately, both in front of and behind the camera - Spielberg said he had this feeling with Colin Trevorrow on the set of Jurassic World, Ant-Man us supposed to feature Hank Pym doing this with Scott Lang... so how would this work with Transformers?

Now, the last time they tried this, we got the 1986 Transformers movie, and everyone bitched about it. But what if they actually tried this time instead of shoehorning in a half assed excuse to sell new toys?

Personally, I'd like to see it. Optimus Prime and Megatron living forever was always fucking stupid to me - they're not Gods, they have to die and stay dead eventually. Everything does. So who could lead at that point? And could they do it well? Or would the fanbase react the same way they do to every other change? That is AHH GOD SOMETHING DIFFERENT KILL IT WITH FIRE and then bitch about it forever.

For the Decepticons, I'm not totally sure who could take the mantle. I hate Galvatron simply because he's another half assed excuse to bring back Megatron, but if they bring in new characters, there might be someone there.

As for the Autobots, it's almost the opposite problem - there's so many characters it's impossible to choose. Hasbro is, of course, gonna make Bumblebee the leader, because the concept of market over-saturation is foreign to them and those Devil worshipping cocksuckers are gonna shove that yellow motherfucker down our throats until we choke on the countless repaints, but assuming they get their heads out of their asses and actually try to explore other characters, who could they use? They could be unoriginal and put Hot Rod front and center under the guise of "homage", but I think we're all sick of that. Plus, it's not like Hot Rod ever had an arc other that "I'm a shitty candidate for leader OH WAIT NO I'M NOT". Honestly, you know what I think would be an excellent idea?

Having a HUMAN be the new leader of the Autobots.

Now hear me out. I'm not saying the Matrix should go to Marky Mark - but if they have a human character who's well developed, a good enough soldier to be considered one with the Autobots, and a damn good leader already, why wouldn't they be chosen as the next leader?

At any rate, these are the musings of a man sugar-drunk off of Mountain Dew Throwback and reminiscing to "2014 Forest Hills Drive" because J. Cole is God, so take them at face value. Point being, do you think the movies could pull off the factions having leaders other than Optimus Prime and Megatron?

Please no. Humans have overshadowed the Transformers in every single Transformers movie. IMO, They need to lose the humans and leave Earth far behind in the trainwreck that is Bayverse.

I'm afraid that if Prime was replaced as the leader then both Hasbro and Paramount would both be pushing to have Bumblebee as the new leader of the Autobots. Just a concept that hasn't been appealing to me before so I'm not sure how you could turn it into an appealing concept.

Starscream would be my pick as the new leader of the Decepticons. Sadly they missed that boat with having to bring Megatron back from the dead and sticking The Fallen into the same film instead of what if Starscream wasn't his incompetent G1 self? Thanks to killing him off and not rebooting I don't expect to see Starscream as the leader of the movie Decepticons.

I think part of the problem replacing them though is Hasbro has pushed the Prime/Megatron thing so hard for so many years they haven't really developed good replacements.

Pretty much this, it is almost like you cannot have one without the other now.

I know everyone will suggest Rodimus, Ginrai, Bumblebee, Star Saber, etc.

But I'd like to see some new characters take the lead, it would make for some interesting new examples and methods of leadership that could stand out from the generally flawless leadership we've seen before with Prime and Bee. Crosshairs for example has expressed a like for leading, it'd be interesting to see how he handles it.

For Decepticons I genuinely would want either Slipstream or Strika to lead, and not just because they're "gurls". They're two characters that could still exist in the movie-verse that have displayed examples of leadership and potential in their few appearances in the past.

I expect that the next film set on Earth will likely have Bumblebee as the leader, considering Optimus left at the end of AOE. They said Bee had been leading them up until they found Optimus. Plus, it's already being done in RID15. I am glad you put out the idea of a human being the Autobot leader. That actually makes me like Bee as the leader more. We need less focus on humans, not more.

As for the Decepticons, I really hope they stick with Galvatron for a while. It's bad enough they brought him back, doing so just to get rid of him again would be even more stupid.

    1. Prime doesn't need to die to pass on the role as leader. It's one thing that drives me nuts about the new leader thing is the idea that someone has to die in order for someone else to take over as head of a ship or something.

    2. The problem is that it's hard for people to accept anyone else in a certain role. Fans will bitch over anyone other than Clark Kent or Bruce Wayne being batman in the comics, even though it's been shown that both men are willing to let others take on the role.

    3. If not for the fact that the humans in the movies so far have been...what's a nice way to say uninteresting...then maybe. But the human in question would have to be one hell of a leader, have a really strong understanding in Cybertronian history and have the respect of the Autobots.

    4. Matrix of Leadership has to say okay to it. If not then it won't work at all.

I would say you could have a human lead a contingent of autobots as part of a smaller squad, but not as the main leader.

Also, please not Bee, he never seemed to want to be leader. I would say someone like Prime Smokescreen or even Elita one would be nice.

I get the feeling you're falling out of love with Bumblebee....

Whomever they bring into the fold as a new autobot leader with enrage the TF gods, and most of the hate will be due to the fact that having the leader being an existing character it will inevitably draw the cries of THAT'S NOT HOW THEY WERE IN G1/IDW/MARVEL etc...

I think that they could potentially do better not having a leader, I mean could you imagine a full on Heist/action movie solely centred around the Wreckers? Now that could be an ace film - but although you may have 'a leader' of the group, with them not being a christ-like interpretation it allows for a richer narrative and character development.

As shown in these movies, humans can be corrupted/influenced too easily to lead autobots. Doesn't make sense to me.

Lord knows that Bumblebee has to be the leader if Optimus isn't.
