Okay, I used to ponder this too. But really, it's pretty simple once you think about it from a writing stand-point. Cade is the protagonist, and while he is over-protective and goofy, you still want the audience to identify with him. So when it's brought to the audience's attention that Cade's underage daughter is dating a twenty year old, more people (especially parents) are willing to take Cade's side and thus identify with him.

If she was 18, someone that's legally capable of making such a decision, the romance wouldn't be quite as big of a deal and Cade might come off as being too defensive. But that's not what Kruger and Bay wanted, they wanted you to root for Marky Mark more than anyone else.

I mean, despite it's clunkiness, I thought it was effective. I know I was rooting for Cade to show Lucky Charms some of his southern hospitality. :lol

The whole Romeo Juliet thing was really unnecessary. It was sad to see Ratchet get killed, and brutally I might add. The plot in AOE was just bad. Technically you can call the government the bad guys, not the Autobots.. "As a thank you for saving our planet multiple times, we're going to slaughter all of you and melt you down for research to make knock off T-1000 Transformers!" Another cheesy version of Decepticon protoforms. Really???? We can probably assume they're all dead as well but I wish they would've mentioned what happened to the rest of the Autobots. Especially sideswipe since he'd been in the ROTF & DOTM.

It was pretty clear in the movie that it the government didn't authorize the hunting the Autobots, it was a renegade CIA team that was working with KSI. They are dead, Drift says "We are all that's left.".

I'm going to have to disagree. I'm not a parent but just about every parent I know that has a daughter remains over protective for their daughter's entire life. Cade just seems like the sort of character who will still be as over protective of Tessa when she's 30 as he was when she was 15.

If Tessa was 18 in the movie I'd still side with Cade. Shane feels like a really bad choice of a boyfriend and I'd totally be on board with Cade not wanting Tessa to date Shane.

Yup. The White House just assumed that the Autobots were still working with them....too bad no one really ever thought to go and check to confirm.

Oh, yeah...I'm sure they will! Thanks for the kind words, btw. Glad to see you enjoyed my thread!

And just for the record, I'm not trying to stir up all that old business in here all over again, I'm just catching up with this thread now that I have some downtime and I realized I never got back to all this or thanked you guys for the back-up and reconsideration. Much obliged!

Still working on a LOT more threads like my Knighthood thread, btw!

    :)

Not really seeing it. His scenes with Bumblebee filled that void well enough and calling him a "cowardly chickenshit" is pretty out of line.

Shane could have just turned around once he saw Cemetary Wind harassing the Yeager household and never gotten involved if he was such a scaredy-cat. Or never dated the daughter of an overprotective muscleman like Cade in the first place, for that matter. Or boarded an alien ship to save her. Or walked a tightrope DOWN to the roof of the Sears Tower. Or broken into K.S.I. in between shoplifting runs as a wanted fugitive from a C.I.A. deathsquad. Or evacuated a veritable tactical nuke from Hong Kong by hand. Or, most of all, driven BACK into the fray with Tessa to take on a giant alien bounty hunter with nothing more than a TOW TRUCK, ffs.

Call Shane what you will, but accusing him of being a "chickenshit coward" is utterly preposterous.

Yeah, Shane did NOTHING to earn ANY respect or to prove that he was willing to stick by the girl he loves through ANYTHING, lol.

What a horrible choice of a boyfriend.

    :rolleyes2

Honestly, I'm thinking that Cade showed very admirable restraint in not beating Shane like a drum.
