I've got to admit I'm not sure which way the movie wanted to go with the Transformium troops. Part of the film tries to indicate mindless drones that are controlled by first the humans and then Galvatron, but other parts of the film have them talking and acting without what seems to be direct control by Galvatron. I wonder if it's a case of the writer couldn't make up his mind so they just went both ways without thinking of how confusing it would be for the people who were going to pick out all the little details.

All of them except Stinger seemed like drones to me carrying out the order of "Stop the Autobots." I don't recall any talking either, just robot noises.

When Galvatron was around he tells them what to do and they respond but they never formulate any complicated strategies between themselves let alone with verbal communication.

I was watching it last night I think Galvaron says climb too, he made them smart enough to use, he wasn't trying to make new fully functioning Decepticons.

I'm pretty sure that one of them said something during the big fight with Hound and one of them said something at end of the fight when they were retreating. It's on Netflix and Amazon Prime so someone go look because I don't want to do it.

I watched it but it's kind of hard to tell if it's Hound grunting or not.

I don't think they are controlled directly by Galvatron in the sense that he controls every single one of their movements. Rather, I think he gave his minions a certain degree of artificial intelligence programming. If he commands them to search or attack then they will do those things, but he doesn't literally control every bullet or missile his KSI drones fire or literally sees everything their optics spots at every moment.

Likewise, the KSI drones saying things in a few instances is kind of like enemy characters in a video game saying commands or hurling insults during gameplay. It's simply something they're programmed to do by Galvatron. Why? Who knows. Maybe Galvatron's spent too much time around humans and their X-Boxes, Play Stations, Wiis, and Siris.

"Budgetary concerns".. Really? With how much money these movies make? This was supposed to be a trans-formers movie, not a trans-morpher movie..

If their budgetary concerns were so high, don't hire wahlberg, grammer, and tucci.. I'd much rather have a movie with robots that actually transform than one with a bunch of human stars.

At this point it's ridiculous that the autobot story is secondary to the human one. You can't blame that on budget. These movies make PLENTY of money.

Looking at just the box office returns one might think oh gee Paramount is rolling in the cash, but profits are different than the box office run.

You take out for the budget so that's about $200 million that Paramount has to foot upfront. But films these days requires a massive amount of advertising so that's another big fat wad of money to shell out before the first ticket is even sold.

After the movie reaches the box office every dollar at the ticket window doesn't end up in the Paramount coffers. Paramount gets a cut but they don't get every dime of the box office take because movie theaters can't operate without taking a cut of the box office themselves. Paramount isn't a non-profit so taxes will eat into those box office returns as well.

Get overseas and the box office cut gets even smaller for a US studio.

Studios often worry about how well the home entertainment market will work for them because that's money for the studio long after the box office run, but once again every dime doesn't go to Paramount.

It's impossible to say just how much a film like Age of Extinction brought in for Paramount but it's not nearly as much as you would think. Then factor in that every film is a risk so Paramount might put up big money for Transformers 5 only to the franchise fizzle out at the box office because few franchises can keep up a head of steam forever. Part of the reason for budget restraints is to minimize the damage if a film isn't a box office and home entertainment hit.

That's why we have a wrap up on Cade, his family as well as Joshua, but we have no idea about the Dinobots, Prime or what the other Earth Autobots will do, right?

Because it's going to be continued. People aren't going to go see TF5 because they want to know if Shane and Tessa get married or perhaps Shane has another statutory "green card" at his disposal, they want to know about Prime, the Creators and possible future Dinobot action.

So I'm not sure how the Transformer story is second to a human one here.

And if we're using other movies as examples, we have no idea what happened to any of the human characters from previous films. Not even a word. So... second fiddle or bust?

It's really a weird gimmick if you ask me.

    Turn into anything.

That largely seems to have been the M.O. regarding any extra Transformers on Earth when it came to the sequels: they just, 'weren't there.'

I still feel that's what they'll do with TF5: The Dinobots just wandered off into the hills of China, and every other Autobot besides Bumblebee will disappear, and a new 'gruesome threesome' will come about to mouth off be a ragtag band of Armageddon-style oil drillers.

I hope it's a sign we'll never those humans again.
