Well, since these "Who Could Play X" threads seem to be going pretty well, screw it, let's go again. I've got a pretty good feeling that these threads are all gonna get merged at some point, but for now, focusing the thread around the particular character seems to be working. Without further stalling, Grimlock. The most brutal Dinobot, the most powerful Autobot, and also HE TURNS INTO A GODDAMN DINOSAUR. We know this guy. He doesn't need any introduction. What he DOES need, however, is a fucking voice actor for the movies. The obvious choice is Gregg Berger, and I have no doubt he'd do great as Grimlock. But let's say for whatever reason, he's all booked. Maybe Microsoft suddenly decides to make his character from Halo Wars important again, maybe he gets hired onto the Robotech movie, or maybe he was offered a role as Grimlock when AOE started and wisely declines because he'd know it'd be fucking terrible. Who else could be Grimlock? I've gone on record as saying I'd like to see Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo, the new Aquaman, looks like a Samoan Rob Zombie) play Grimmy, and I stand by him as an option. But I offer up two new options - one pretty predictable, the other...not so much. I'll cover that one up with spoiler tags because I'm a showman. The first? Mickey Rourke. His performance's in Iron Man 2 and The Expendables spurred my decision to include Rourke on this list. In The Expendables, he played a former mercenary who you could tell carried a LOT of baggage - he had killed a lot, and wasn't exactly proud of it. Meanwhile, his character in Iron Man 2 was mostly improvised by Rourke (which made him a real pain in Marvels ass, because how dare an actor make your shitty character somewhat unique) - he met with several Russian prisoners to perfect his characters accent and mannerisms, and his toothpick habit was improvised. I think if we combine both these traits, we could get an EXCELLENT representation of Grimlock, especially if he falls more on the Iron Man 2 side of the scale. A noble warrior of few words, with little quirks and unique mannerisms to help make this Grimlock a really unique take on the character. And now for the more... distinctive choice. Drumroll please... Ruby motherfucking Rose. Now, what makes me think an Australian genderfluid lesbian who's only acting roles so far are an obscure Australian movie I didn't even know existed until 2 minutes ago and the newest season of Orange is the New Black could POSSIBLY play the male warrior leader of the Dinobots? Well, first of all, I'm not specifically talking about G1 or Movie Grimlock. I'm not even talking about any specific iteration of Grimlock - I'm just talking about whatever version of Grimlock may come next. And honestly, for a series called "Transformers", its creators are fucking scared of change. Every version of the characters we see are the same version across the board and they pass it off as saying it's "classic", when in reality they just don't wanna do anything different with them. And honestly, that's a shame - if you're gonna do a new Transformers series or movie or whatever, why not make it really unique and view things from a new perspective? Why not a Soundwave who DOES feel emotion, but chooses to hide it? Why not a Sunstreaker who's vanity was brought on by his parents forcing him to be the best? And, of course, why not a female Grimlock? Same warrior personality, same strength and rage - just with a 100% more probability of making Tumblr go bonkers. And even then, Ruby Rose just LOOKS like a fucking badass. And second...well, Ruby Rose really wowed me in season 3 of Orange is the New Black. She struck me as a very human character, who worked her own angles, but knew when she had done wrong and wished to atone for it. However, she also appeared to be a very strong character as well, who seemed generally unfazed by most of what happens in the prison, and even a little cocky. Not saying that's Grimlock, but it is a pretty unique character, and I feel like she has some range beyond what we've seen. She's already becoming the most popular character this season with EVERYBODY, and is probably gonna find a lot of work after this - why not let Transformers be her first foray into shitty American blockbusters? Also look at her. She's turning an entire wave of Netflix faring young women into lesbians and it's easy to see why. So, there's my two choices for Grimlock. You guys have anyone you'd like to nominate for the part?
Keith David or Robby Benson who's famous for playing The Beast from Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Both of these actors have provided voices that can be both beastly and majestic which fits Grimlock's character.
You do realize that's Crosshairs, but his voice was Deeper then you think in AoA. It's Grimlock Worthy.
I actually like this. I think Grimlock should have "a King" personality and not his comical personality like the cartoons.
Agreed. I hope they go for a personality similar to that of his Marvel,IDW and FOC versions since I feel it suits the design for Movie Grimlock better then his comical versions.
