Has Optimus Prime ever had his wristblade pop out above his hand (not replace it)

I always thought his blades appeared by his hands instead of replacing them but as I watch some videos on youtube on slow motion it's obvious that my preferred configuration actually isn't screen accurate. So is there any actual screen basis for certain toys looking like the first pic below instead of the second pic?

The blade completely replaced his hand in the first movie, and though it's hard to tell in ROTF, certain scenes show that his hand is present with the blade out. That's according to the wiki, anyway.

    Thanks for the reply.

So with your info I checked out the Sentinel Prime fight. Optimus rushes in with the wristblade replacing his fist. Then his fist pops out too and he's then holding the sword like a normal human holds a sword. This is different than the forest scene where his sword replaces his hand entirely. It's different but not quite the same as having them pop out Wolverine style.

In the first movie it replaced his hand completely, In the second it did both. Replace his hand AND show up while his hand was still present. In the third movie he completely detaches them and uses them as non connected swords. However during his scene when he fly's in and kills all the cons and Shockwave, I'm pretty sure it doesn't replace his and and is used as a wristblade. In AOE it replaces his hand again and is grinded off by Galvatron.

I also don't understand how they can come out of his arms, and yet in the Chernobyl fight against Shockwave he has to pick a sword up from his trailer...

I think in one of the movies he holds something with a hand while he's got his blades out.

Maybe the swords have handles inside his arms, so when he gets them out in DOTM and holds them as humans would, they might slide so he can grab the handle.

I think Mr. Bay and his crew themselves couldn't answer these questions, so we can merely speculate. I doubt they pay enough attention for such details. They are more like "oh that'll look cool!", "oh that's shiny! I like it. More explosions in the background, yep! Good!"

OK I rewatched more of RotF and from my frame by frame analysis Optimus only goes Wolverine style with his wristblades in his Jetpower form against the Fallen. Thanks for directing me to that movie specifically. I was only focusing on the forest scene for whatever reason.

A lot of characters switched out built-in hand-swapping weaponry for handheld guns.

Optimus has four energon swords, one energon axe, two blasters, one big canon, one knight sword and shield that can turn into a gun plus brass knuckles.

    That's damn well armed.

How else could a bot with built in swords in his arms get randomly stuck in a thread of cables...

Well I noticed this ever since ROTF. i just dunno how to express it in English :D . The Blade ALWAYS replace his hand. In DOTM he release the Blade and with his hand sucked inside then he poped his hand out again to grap it, making the Blade handheld. Now to answer your question, yes during the flight with the Fallen, Optimus with Jetfire upgrade was able to place the blade above his arm without geting his hand sucked inside :D
