So watched DotM a while ago. Laserbeak has the best line in the movie. "Jerry, you are my favorite..." But when both me & my wife saw it twice in the theaters we both could've swore he said "Jerry, you were always my favorite..." So either we're both crazy (possible) and remembered the line wrong in exactly the same way, or there was a change between the theatrical & home release versions of the movie. Does anyone know for sure? We always quote that line, but we were surprised to find that we've apparently been quoting it wrong this entire time.
I thought it was "you were always my favourite." Man Laserbeak was awesome, more awesome that almost every other Decepticon in this continuity.
interesting. So it's not just us. I wonder if there really was a change, and if so, why change that? And yeah, Laserbeak is one of the most awesome cons in the movies. Who else could make a cute, pink Bumblebee scary?
It's very common for people to misremember exact phrasing in movies. Humans don't typically pay attention to exact verbiage when it's not abnormal. You remember what was said, not how it was said, so your brain just logically fills in the actual words, which may be slightly different. They didn't change it, your brain just made a wrong "guess" when remembering it. This specifically is a good example of your brain placing a past tense on your memory of the line, since Jerry almost immediately becomes past tense in that scene. It makes more sense to your brain both in the context and becasue all memories are past tense themselves.
Normally I'd say it was misremembered, but in the case of DOTM, there was another clear dialog change. Theatrical version, when Brazos sees Bumblebee, he says, "Freaking awesome." In the home video version, it is changed to "F**king awesome." So, they did it once, maybe they did it twice.
After I read this post, I was curious. I went online to one of those sites and grabbed an old CAM version of the movie. You know, the ones where a guy holds a video camera during a theater showing... and he says "Jerry, you are my favorite...".
So is that your new ringtone or text notification sound? That's the problem with most of the live action movie Decepticons, they're pronunciation is terrible.
That they may have. I recall asking a similar question in ROTF, when Megatron was beating Starscream. I recall him saying "I can't even rely on you to swat a single human insect", but the DVD had him say "I can't even rely on you to swat one single insect." So maybe the dialogue had been changed. And this may also be another case.
Now that he says it I did think he said you were always my favorite unless it was some hissing noise he made that's making me forget. I mean these family members and group were supposed to be doing this for years so he could have know Jerry since he was a kid.
I especially like the part where everyone doesn't notice or else otherwise straight-up ignores the fact that this question has already been definitively answered, lol.
Yeah. In the past, when I would rewatch a movie on home video I'd get a bit surprised to hear the actual dialogue as opposed to what I'd believed I had remembered from the theater. Though that has tapered off in recent years thanks to clips being uploaded to YouTube.
Ha-ha! In russian dubbing that was so ridiculous - "Охренеть не встать!" It's interesting - I also don't remember the phrase exactly. For example, I don't remember Drift's astonishment after Grimlock's transformation. Sometimes I think that he said "I was expecting a giant car!", but sometimes it seems "I was expecting to see a giant car!"
