IDW has zero connection to the writing and plotting out of these scripts. Hell, if IDW did have a significant enough role in planning the TFCU from here on out, it would be nothing short of a miracle because even at its worst, the current quality of the IDW TF comics are still insanely higher than anything the movies have done.

Of course, the guys at IDW also plan this shit out years in advance so it all ties together over almost a decade at this point. They're thoretically only doing this now with the films...after pretty much all the major name Decepticons are already dead.

Unlikely. If they had any intention of doing this, you think they would have not hit the big reset button and killed off all the Autobots who weren't Prime or BB right before AoE? What did Crosshairs or Drift do (besides the shoehorned helicopter thing for all of five seconds of the latter) that say, Sideswipe or Dino/Mirage couldn't have done?

That requires the films to have more robot characters than Prime and BB. Effectively everybody else is just cardboard in terms of the character depth.

That's like doing minimal maintenance work on your commuter sedan that you drive to work and back for eight years, all the while hoping that somehow the sedan will suddenly morph into a Lexus. The odds kind of suck for that happening, and they only get worse over time unless you change something first.

    Proof?

Kruger himself admitted he doesn't even write full script drafts for these films! That's pretty low effort right there!

They key word being "may" try - seriously, there's a major difference between probabilities and chance, or actually having confirmation that they're putting more effort into making an actual movie instead of just moving picture explosions with a crap framing plot.

I was just citing an example about how it's not really stupid or impossible to have TF movies that don't focus on the major players like Optimus like in the IDW comics.

They never said about not doing different time periods for the spin off movies so in that regard it's always possible that they'll have movies that take place during the different time periods of the Movie universe either it be the past, present or yet to come like the planned TF movie prequel that takes place on Cybertron.

Again the spin off movies can very wlel change that especially since some of the writers on board are praised for their work and can manage to make the other character have more dimensions.

Same can be said for G1 purists. Every fanbase has it's share of nutjobs so accusing only one fanbase isn't fair.

Movie fans have discussions with each other about what they like and not like, listen to non movie fans opinions,do, art, etc. Hardly different.

If Kruger is still on board that would be an understandable feeling but he's not on board anymore and like I said some of the new writers are good at their writing so that's a good sign of them putting more effort into them.

Some people's views aren't like your own. I'm willing to see if they'll be able to pull it off or not. If they don't too bad but if they do that'll be fantastic.

Let me get this straight... they can't afford to reboot with 1 film, so they're going to reboot with multiple films?

I don't think it's ever claimed to be anything but just a fun time.

Having a good time isn't "blind fanaticism." There's a middle ground between enjoying something and being a fan of it, and still knowing that there's always room for improvement, regardless.

John Barber should be the Kevin Feige of the TFCU. His movie work is a high note in his Transformers career and in the movie franchise, and his compulsive obsession with fixing continuity would be a great boon to working out the mess that Bay's "Fuck it, I'm already rich," approach left.

It's a sad day, when the star Autobot of the movies needs his own movie to get some character development.

I get that feeling as well since that's what they did with Star Trek. Just sort of waiting for Transformers Insurrection and Transformers Nemesis.

Although it kind of feels like a rush now to burning people on Transformers as there will be less and less room between films if they try to go for more and more films. If people are already losing interest I'm not sure that throwing more films at them quicker is going to win back people to the franchise.

Even though Bumblebee is literally getting his own solo movie now?

Tying to do anything set in the past on Earth is impossible - you can't make sense of the timeline with regards to those events at this point without outright contradicting entire movies since otherwise, Megatron both is totally clueless about Earth's existence and knows exactly where planet Earth is located before he even leaves Cybertron in the first place.

And you're making these assumptions based on...what, exactly? All you can say is confirmed is that they're currently hired for this project,

That's not even tangentially related to what you said:
Based on my observations of this subforum, there is more than a healthy majority of people who are as devoted to the movies as the so called "G1 Purists" as you suggest.
    I'll let Dead Metal speak on this one;
The movies are stagnating in discussion, since AoE's plot literally left nothing to speculate on. Sure there's "who are the Creators" but how many times can that question be asked and any kind of reasonable speculation be expected to follow? And that's just a question of "WHO" they are - the other major questions of "why," "when," and "how" can not be explained as necessary facts from "who" are not given. No idea of their motivations or how they even are supposed to actually fit into the mythos at large.

Sure, sure, people can 'speculate'...but for the next two years? I doubt anybody is going to care unless more info surfaces. Though it also should be telling that of the two films even hinted at so far: the cybertronian pre-war film and the BB spotlight, absolutely no mention of the Creators even being part of those films is made. And simply assuming that those stupid plot device characters might be involved means nothing, unless it was officially stated. It's only speculation leading to speculation leading to yet more speculation - there is no actual discussion on what exists, it's just one giant guessing game over and over for YEARS on end.

How do you go from saying it's possible that he's on board, to outright saying he's not?

Like, until recently we thought Bay wasn't back, either, until almost all the sources started saying he is coming back after that Benghazi film.

All I can find about Kruger not being involved is twitter rumors from last December.

Have you forgotten Akiva Goldsman - the man who killed the Batman film franchise juggernaut with Batman and Robin - is the one in charge of managing the "TFCU" as its supervising writer?

Like, he's barely better than dudes like Uwe Boll or M. Night in terms of how epically he destroyed a money making film series, putting him in charge of something like Transformers is not good given his track record.

After eight years it's hard not to have expectations of what the TF films are going to be at this point when it's been a constant decline.

Funny, I tend to see people attacking other popular films instead of actually citing evidence from the Transformers films, when it comes to "defending" the TF films, at least recently in this subforum.

And also countless times where that big "one billion revenue" number and the "$301 in China" facts are pushed at only face value in stark ignorance of the fact Paramount didn't make nearly as much after factoring in all the licence agreements with China and how only 25% of the Chinese box office actually went to bank deposits not belonging to the Chinese government.

Bumblebee wasn't a major focus in the past four movies despite having large roles especially in AOE.

They never said anything more about what the prequel can be about other then it takes place before the first movie. It can be about any type of story like focusing on a new character that'll show up in the present timeline and it's possible to do that without contradicting anything. Why do you keep saying this is impossible when the MCU was able to do something similar with Captain America's movies?

Because from what I've looked up some of these writers like the one who's doing Walking Dead has a good track record. Not to mention from what I've looked up he's also a TF fan which helps.

I know that. Maybe I misread what you've posted or it didn't come out right. It just feels like you're attacking the movie fans.

But isn't speculating and thinking up ideas of what to expect next part of what makes a fandom flourish? It may be slow now but once the hype for the future movies come up it'll be back eventually.

Kruger isn't Bay though. For all we know he could out of this for good whereas with Bay it's expected at this point to see him be involved again in some manner.

Batman and Robin happened two decades ago,I'm sure since then he's well aware of how it did with people. From what I've heard he's actually a decent writer who's done his own share of good thing after Batman and Robin.

The future isn't set though. That can change or not either way it remains to be seen.

Also, the Bumblebee movie hasn't been directly confirmed, only implied.

Still worth keeping an eye out.

Wasn't he the "car" in what the first film's "a boy and his car" theme was said to be? I think it was Spielberg who said that, not sure.

That, and IIRC like, 50% of DOTM was literally just Bumblebee deluxe variants. Most of them new molds, too.

DOTM has it so the Decepticons have enough leverage through human patsies to get Apollo missions 18 and 19 canceled in the middle of the space race era.

It directly contradicts the entire first movie when the mustached S7 dude comes in with the video player suitcase and shows off the Beagle 2 footage with nudist Blackout on it.

How in the hell, then, does S7 - the agency specifically created to handle things that are obviously related to the giant frozen robo-popcile in Hoover Dam - somehow not have a clue about the fact there's a goddamn spaceship full of robots on the moon if they have access to NASA stuff?

The only Cap. film actually set in the past was the first one...during WWII during which that character actually was made...and the only connections that exist from that first film to the MCU at large are Tony's predacesor having been a close associate (represented by Tony using a prototype Cap. shield as a prop to support a node for his homebuilt super-laser thingy in IM2) and the serum that created the Hulk was in part based on trying to recreate what Cap was given (established in the Avengers film when Cap and Banner first meet).

And yes, Winter Soldier actually is straight from the comics, too - origin and everything.

    M. Night said he was a fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

    Look how that turned out.
I'm not attacking anybody, I'm just trying to point out that trying to expect the movies are going to suddenly become quality pieces of cinema based on literally no concrete evidence is only setting up doomed expectations.
By that point, speculation can encompas so many things that have become expected that it will only make the film more disapointing when it fails to meet those expectations.

Like how people expected the Dinobots to be actual characters and not incidental mounts for the 'bots to just charge into the final battle on.

But Kruger said himself that he doesn't fully write out his scripts.

    Such as...?

It's also why what we know now should not be taken as guarantees of what's to come - but where we DO know as fact isn't looking good.

I think that was for the first movie's theme. Also DOTM's focus was on Optimus and Sentinel largely too.

Who's to say NASA didn't let Sector Seven get access to every information they have? NASA doesn't seem to be far off from having it's own share of secrets hidden even from a place called Sector Seven.

Being careful about what to expect is one thing but we also can't go and expect them to be epic piles of turd either without any solid proof either.

I've learned to have some certain expectations since ROTF left me with a bad taste which was why before seeing AOE I had a feeling the Dinobots weren't going to be as much. So I think it's safe to say it's the same thing with most people knowing when to have certain expectations met when it comes to TF movies.

I know and you've mention this a couple of times. I was just pointing out that he could be the type of guy to not change his mind that often if at all. If he does this then I'll agree but for now I'm waiting.

He did screenplays for Cinderella Man and the movie adaptation for the DaVinchi Code. They're mixed to be sure but not on Batman and Robin levels of terrible.

That last bit can be argued as being subjective. Maybe it doesn't sound so good now but what if it does pay off in the end? Didn't you say so yourself about not jumping to conclusions in your arguments?

The Deceptions shut down moon missions and the beagle 2 was on Mars. Just cause both those bodies exist in space means squat. Space is huge.

And Sector 7 absolutely knew about the ship on the moon. They just weren't talking. Did you forget Mirren telling OP 'it was director only clearance at S7....until now". There's zero contradiction Prime was pissed cause he thought the government was hiding stuff from him, but they didn't know S7 was hiding from them

That's the thing about all the alleged holes in the script. It's really just a case of people not paying attention.

    Yeah, they have a plan.

They want to keep making tons of money on each film.

Some promising things: The writers they've lined up are quite good. They know they need that if they want to start tying things together without so many inconsistencies.

They did a very good job tying DotM to AoE - good progression there. They finally got the human reaction to Transformers right.

They've introduced some concepts that could take several movies to fully explain. The Knights, what exactly the Dinobots are, and the Creators (quintissons) are all ripe for exploration.

And now with Optimus gone, getting some stand-alone films focusing on a single Transformer will probably make fans pretty happy. Yeah, the first one will be Bumblebee, because he's the most popular....but the full-on Transformers films, like AoE, will probably go over far better with fans if a few characters have been given the spotlight prior to seeing them all team back up. (and this is exactly what the MCU did with individual hero movies, though they had the foresight to do that FIRST, saving themselves a lot of mess)

I don't think it's all bad, and I'm glad that we're going to get a continuation of AoE, because I think it was the best live action film, actually introducing a story that wasn't entirely self contained.

It's pretty obvious why it worked. They came up with an overall plan beforehand, and introduced characters one by one in their own movies, allowing audiences to get attached to them as individuals.

This allows the full-on Avengers movies to put almost all their focus on the interactions between them, because audience members already know them all.

The plots in the Avengers movies can move VERY quickly, because groundwork for them has been laid in 2-3 previous films and the audience is already on-board with the characters.

My gut feeling is that they will not work because other studios just see the end results and they want that without putting in the work that Marvel/Disney put in.

For Transformers I don't see it working because Paramount has shown no concern about story discipline so some poor writer is going to have to take all the mess and somehow turn it into a disciplined fictional universe without a reboot because Paramount fears reboots to no end. Marvel/Disney set up huge overarching phases just so the films could seem like a well oiled concert. That meant telling writers, directors, and producers there were things they couldn't do.

I don't think Transformers is really the best material for all sorts of spin off movies. With superhero movies every hero has his or her rouges gallery so a movie can play up some rivalry that has been going on for decades. But individual Transformers don't really have a rouges gallery it's just variations of Autobots in general vs Decepticons in general. Also doesn't help that they killed off so many A list Decepticons so it's the problem Beware the Batman had of people want A list villains.

So far Paramount hasn't shown they can do any variety to the films so each film has felt the same as the other films. Not really sure how exciting it will be to do the same stuff yet again only this time with only one Autobot. If you don't like one of the Marvel heroes then the film about one of the other heroes will likely feel different. Not sure that Bumblebee the Movie is going to feel any different than everything else live action Transformers.

Maybe Star Wars can pull off the spinning off and larger universe to make more money, but outside of Disney I don't have faith in the other studios being able to pull it off, just wishing they could.

Can you supply evidence of where this was mentioned? I'm curious because AOE did impress me on some levels.
