Movie Ultron is a schizophrenic robot with a whiny attitude, he gets beaten in almost every single battle scene; I don't even consider Ultron as a dangerous adversary. He's not exactly the best inspiration for a TF villain.
I'm not getting the Ultron hate. Having seen AOU I think he was easily and by far the best villain the MCU has given us. Not that it was going to be hard or anything, so that's not saying too terribly much. That being said while Ultron isn't the best role model for a TF villain, it's still miles above what we have now, so why the hell not? Ultron had screen time, character ,emotions, a clear motivation and a powerful and fear - inspiring presence, something that TF movie villains (barring Lockdown and maaybee Sentinel) desperately need.
My argument isn't that he isn't robotic enough by the way I'm just saying he looks like shit and sounds shit. And it was Whedon writing him so no chance of him actually having good dialogue. Anyhow why do TFs need a Robotic Emotionless villain? isn't the point of Transformers to humanise them?
I think Ultron would have worked better with his snarkiness if every other character in the movie was NOT a snarky, wisecracking smart-ass. Whedon strikes again!
I think Ultron would be good for Transformers, because it will finally show that CGI Robots can actually be good characters. And Paramount might pick up on that like how DC picked up after Marvel's success with Avengers.
I really hate going into this forum because of all the shit-posting, but this thread title interested me so... How was he non-threatening? Yes he lost most of his one on one confrontations but EVERY SINGLE TIME outside of the VERY LAST Ultron his main body was just distracting the Avengers while his other bodies carried out the true plan. He had no intention of winning any of them. He was one step ahead of them for literally the entire movie up until the end when things reversed on him as is to be expected in every single movie ever. And "whiny attitude"? I disagree, but I guess it's a matter of opinion. Jealousy, rage and a thirst for vengeance to a fault are all important parts of every Ultron version. Ultron wasn't the best villain ever, but he was leagues ahead of any villains the Transformer movies have produced.
I haven't seen Avengers 2 and I haven't seen any of the live action TF movies... are we just talking about movie versions of these characters or what? 'Cause I generally don't count them. I can tell you my favorite Ultron stories from the comics, and transformers already has theirs - Shockwave. Ultron is that typical computer gains sentience, decides to wipe out all of humanity - pretty standard. Shockwave is just your TF character that is all logic, no emotion - like Ultron. But that's about as far as they go.
and that's what worries me. They're basically picking up after the trivial aspects over what's actually making Marvel work. The fact they're fun romps tat you look forward to the next instalment...not dreading.
I really didn't know anything about Ultron until the trailers started last year. That said, I guessed, or wished, that Galvatron was a high-end prototype made from parts of different bots. I figured he should be his own character having no ties to Cybertron, but with latent personality traits of Megs and maybe Sentinel under the surface. He'd have been constrained and tortured by electronic components Attinger would have had implanted in his head to keep him in compliance, without sacrificing free will and intelligence. It would have been a wonderful analog to G1 Galvatron and Unicron's master/slave relationship, till Galvs found a way to "cut the strings. Strings!" I'm no longer surprised that such obvious and easily thought out solutions went completely over the heads of the writing staff for these films.
Kind of ironic that some of the complaints that are listed for ONE of marvel's villains is something that's plagued all of the TF movies. Joss has both wrote and directed more character development and story than any of the TF movies. Also, he knows how to intertwine multiple people and stories into one cohesive story arc that plays out and then continues to grow, something once again cannot be done by the TF franchise. Please don't mention the creators, they were shoe horned in to accommodate this new trilogy. There's no more history, or story to be developed there than in all the other previous movies where people hope things will get explained but they just don't, ever. Those who talk trash are probably wishing in the back of their minds that the TF's movies were as revered by the population, and cherished by EACH of the multiple directors that are involved with the MCU. Sorry, but the MCU is what happens when both the film company, directors, writers and everyone else involved give a shit about the stories they're telling. A story that's going to be told over a decade and thought out step by step. I seen Age of Ultron and it did not disappoint. It took over 6 months for me to finally get a used copy of Age of Extinction to see it, and I still wish I hadn't. Now, I'll eagerly await phase 3 tyvm.
He still acted as the titular baddy for almost the entire movie. Maybe it wasnt his fault but he is still a villain.
Got to see Avengers 2 at last. I thought Ultron worked well as a movie villain. Was he a perfect film villain? No, but given the history of the character since his first appearance in the comic books I think they found a way to make the character work for people who had not read the comic books or watched the cartoons that had Ultron episodes. As to if a character like Ultron could work well for the Transformers films they would have to change the formula of the movies. Transformers tends to have the villains just pop up all big and bad only to be down hill from their first ass whipping of the heroes. But Ultron starts out weak, parts barely kept together and each new body makes Ultron harder to defeat. Having his mind and body being able to escape the destruction of his physical form would be super nice instead of hey just kill off the Decepticons because we aren't creative enough to do anything else. While people have been comparing Ultron to Shockwave I thought there was more of an Insecticon vibe since the clones had the same mind as Ultron Prime.
