The 2017 release seems to be locked in place over at hasbro and paramount. The shared universe is confirmed with writers. But still no director for TF5? I don't buy it.

Personally, I'm reasonably certain that the delay in announcing TF5's director is 100% due to the general courtship process with Bay.

The longer the delay, the more absolutely positive and positively thrilled I am that Bay will AT LEAST once again grace the franchise with his superlative stewardship.

    XD

Sweet mother of Primus, no more Bayverse. All four of his TF films have the same core formula, and it's become old and stale.

    Human parent/child angst
    Explosions
    Precocious oversexualized female
    Explosions
    Annoying, unneeded human comic relief
    Explosions
    Neverending chase scene
    Explosions
    Very little plot
    Explosions
    Transformers secondary to human characters
    Explosions
Non-Existant Transformer character development or backstory
Did I happen to mention explosions?

The first movie will always be the best of the four, because it brought the franchise to life on the big screen. On the flipside (for me), AOE was a complete train wreck. I would love to see the movie franchise completely rebooted, with humans and Earth playing no role whatsoever. I want to see the story of the Transformers, beginning on Cybertron. To see how and why different characters came to be who they are, and why they chose the factions they did. To experience the cities of Cybertron (like Iacon,Praxus,Polyhex,Vos,Kelis,Kaon, ect) and see their fall through the eyes of different Cybertronians and factions.
That's something I don't believe Bay or his underlings are capable of. They're too hung up on the human element.

Anyone excited that Bay might come back has a serious lack of imagination!

Its great that you see the Bayformers movies for the trash they are, but this stuff makes money. Its not going anywhere for a while.

Just take some solace in the fact that this generates interest in the brand and keeps the awesomeness outside the Bayformers universe coming.

It doesnt seem 2017 is officially locked in. They just say thats when Hasbro would expect it. Things could always change.

I thought it was strongly confirmed that the Ninja Turtles director was doing TF5?

I agree in favor of not having Bay return, and I like the movies.

He just focuses far too much on specticle, explosions and scenery. We need a director who has the mindset of "story now-action later...and when appropriate". Bay has this mindset of "this would be a great shot!/put a bunch of explosions in this scene, and we'll figure out where the robots go and what they do"/"hey *actor name here* youre not funny enough! Be funny! Thats what youre here for!"(he literally said that last part to the actor who played lucas in AOE).

We need a director who shoots based around story, not action. And we need writers who know the TF lore and care enough about it to plan out a master story from here on out.

God I hope Krugar isnt one of the writers.

Can someone explain why Paramount/Hasbro actually hired a director that not one fucking sane critic liked, and couldn't make even a film like Pearl Harbor equally acceptable among people?

Hmmm. I still say having a cinematic universe is a chance to start from scratch and plan things out properly and stop contradicting things and ignoring things, but Hasbro and Paramount won't want to rock the boat (which is ironic seeing as they'll reboot the cartoon/toy line every five minutes outside of the movies). They may get a new director they may not but I don't think we'll get much vastly different.

I've loved the movies up until now, I think I enjoyed AOE the most out of all four, but I actually struggle to watch any of them now, and I've not watched them all that often.

    ^This.

Honestly their is nobody in Hollywood who is right for this...nobody will ever see Transformers is capable of story potential....at least in this decade.

Personally a huge start would be James Roberts being the scriptwriter.
