Did the events in IDW movie comics happened in the same timeline as the movies or not?

Like any other comic, it's canon until the movies contradict it. It also make zero bearing to the events of the movie.

Yeah like I consider Jolt's death from Rising Storm canon while Starscream shooting the Ark in Foundation contradicts DOTM so it's not entirely canon.

    If it works maybe.

If Bay takes one big gigantic explosion of a dump on it with a sequel then NO.

From what I've heard...they might actually be the best part of the movieverse.

No, the writing is pretty danm boring and uninspired for the most par, the only impressive thing about them is how it tries to tie the continuity together tighter but thats it.
But if your one of "Those" people who like shitting on the movies out of principal ull probably like them for that

I accept anything that doesn't outright contradict what's in the movies themselves.

Thanks to John Barber, that means most count.

    Yep, pretty much.

Reign of Starscream is an excellent read, as are most of the Tales of the Fallen series, and the Soundwave focused story, I forget what it was called, but that was really good.

Reign of Starscream and Foundation are the two best. Rising Storm would be among the top tier if it weren't for Carlos Magno's art. Alliance, Defiance, and Tales of the Fallen are just kind of okay. Sector 7 is really good for what it is. Nefarious is just godawful.

But of course with AOE they're all pretty much best left ignored like the notion of "continuity" altogether.

I enjoyed most of the RotF comics since the rather... shall I say "frayed" concept of continuity that film presented left it very open to expansion. I mostly read anything that involved The Fallen himself. Nevertheless, continuity in the film-verse, even within the films themselves is kind of screwed.

I can safely say my enjoyment of Dark of the Moon as a film was increased by having read Barber's prequels before seeing it.

I can't help but think it's impressive how Barber does continuity.

Unless that Decepticon fighter was starscreams cybermode in the movie.
