Came across this article, "sequels fans pretend don't exist"! Transformers made the list, but, it seems like the writer might not have done his research!
Transformers II : Dark of the Moon

As a sidey, which sequel do you pretend doesn't exist?

I have learnt to accept them, whether I like them or not.

I don't "ignore" them, necessarily, in terms of personal continuity or any of that...I just plain-@$$ don't watch them.

I dislike Transformers: Age of Extinction to the extreme, and while I will continue to watch the Transformers movies to see what characters get developed and which ones of those are good characters, I like to think that the movie-verse ended with Dark of the Moon.

DOTM. With little world building, little of the Autobots in the first half of the movie, awful fight choreography, and an army or either suicidal, or mentally challenged Decepticons who are killed off unceremoniously, there is little I like about this movie. Some of the concepts are good, but are executed badly, and while Sentinel and Leaserbeak are well handled, they just seem wasted being in a movie I can't stand. Those positives serve only to add to my frustration, seeing how close this movie came to being good.

ROTF is also pretty bad, and arguably a worse movie, but with some actual personality in the Autobots (as annoying as they were) and the 'Cons being not quite so awful, I don't feel it's as big an insult to what I think TF should be as DOTM. That film (DOTM) I pretend doesn't exist. This film (ROTF) I tolerate.

AOE is also seriously flawed, and is also, arguably, a worse movie than DOTM, but it feels like an actual TF film, albeit a bad one. I won't get into why it feels like an actual TF film, this post is going on for long enough, and this thread is about the ones I dislike, but for that reason, I actually like AOE.

Guy has "done his research", doesn't get the title of the film right. Seems legit.

Look, as much as we'd like to pretend we didn't see Devastator's balls, or Hayden Christiansen courting Natalie Portman by talking about sand, those movies happened. And said movies still led into future stories. Sticking your fingers in your ears and going "lalalalaala" isn't going to help. It sucks that they were made but you can't pretend they never existed.

Now when it's something that won't affect anything else, like Green Lantern or The Last Airbender, then you have some wiggle room to ignore it.

There's always wiggle room. I have to acknowledge that the Decepticons lost a huge battle in Chicago before AOE. I don't have to acknowledge that they gave up because they knew Murder Prime would slaughter them (at least that's my guess for why they weren't even trying).

Kind of hard to not pay attention to the sequels if you care about canon, like me. Each movie has something important to the overall timeline.

TF: Autobots make alliance with humans, Megatron dies, Allspark destroyed except for a fragment

ROTF: Megatron is revived, Optimus acquires Matrix, Megatron is badly damaged

DOTM: Battle of Chicago, humans hate Transformers, Cybertron imploded(or got sucked into a vortex) Megatron and Decepticons died

AOE: Megatron returns as Galvatron, Bumblebee cuts off contact with Sam, Optimus leaves Earth

Actually, you could cut out ROTF and DOTM such that TF1 leads straight into AoE..and it kind of works better.

Even though they're all shite, ROTF takes the cake being the absolute worst of them, and skipping it makes 100% absolutely zero difference to anything when it comes to these movie's so-called "continuity". DOTM should have been the actual sequel to TF1.

well, it does make sense, but it wouldn't explain the disappearance of some characters like Starscream or Ironhide, unless those gaps were somehow filled.

For me, I ignore DOTM and AOE for increasing human involvement (I despise evil humans), going too far (wiping out Cybertron and the Decepticons), and for using VFX on interesting but unneccessary concepts (the Driller, Transformium).

    I don't pretend that bad sequels exist....I accepted its existence but I doesn't mean I like it...unless I do.
