I'd be inclined to disagree. In my personal opinion, Ironhide, Jetfire, Sentinel Prime, and Lockdown's best incarnations hail from the movies, and my personal favorite version of Bumblebee was inspired by the movie version.

I'm not a fan of throwing away canon. Sucky or otherwise.

At some point I think you have to throw out some stuff even on something you love because too much canon gets insanely unwieldy even for the mega fans. I mean just imagine attempting to keep track of every scrap of Batman canon since his first comic book appearance. At some point you have ignore some of it.

Despite the movie's tendency to be lackluster in areas like character development. Some of the Transformers it represented are the probably the best portrayals in the franchise.

Honestly I really like that Laserbeak is something more than a drone in other incarnations. I can also say characters like Hound, Crosshairs or Lockdown are cool here compared to other series.

Pretty much this. We all have our different preferences for which films are better than others. However, just because someone has a hatred for one or more of the films doesn't mean those films are any less of a part of the canon. B.O.T. and Carnage in C Minor are as much a part of G1 as Webworld or Dark Awakening, however bad the former two may be. Energon is just as much a part of the Unicron Trilogy as Armada and Cybertron.

It's the same with the movies. I think both AOE and DOTM are both much, much better than TF 07 and ROTF, but the latter two are just as much a part of the Bayverse as the former two.

That's the way it is for me too. The movies stopped existing after Dark of the Moon

I'm willing to drudge through that mostly filler middle part known as Revenge of the Fallen
I don't even mind the crude humor infact some of it I find amusing at best.

I typically ignore ROTF, as it seems (to me anyway) that doing that actually helps to form a somewhat solid continuity, with much less plot holes

I really don't like the idea of ignoring continuity regardless of whether I like it or not. In fact, these days I find the first film to be the worst. I don't hate it (it has aspects I like), but I find it to be weaker. ROTF isn't necesarilly a better film, but it has more aspects I like than the first. The last two are considerably better, with AOE being the very best. I just think the latter two have better executed stories, more compelling characters, and AOE especially reminds me why I love Transformers. However, all of the films are equally a part of the live-action universe.

I can't forget any single transformers movie, unless I forget the whole of the live action saga.

I do like to forget The Hangover Part III, as Barack Obama pointed out, that was not a good movie.

    Also Taken 2 & 3

And The Last Exorcism Part 2

All of them. But not because I think the G1 animated movie is the be all, end all or any of that kind of nonsense. Because I think the movies just suck on unprecedented levels across the board and don't even mean anything to each other.

I suppose you could pretend only tf1 exists
but then you have the sequel bait at the end
which i supposed you remedy with just Sideswipe
chillin' with the rest of 'em on Earth, however
You still have the 3 remaining Cons
    Starscream, Barricade, and Scorponok
    hmm...

I tend to just not acknowledge everything from ROTF that I didn't enjoy a enough or didn't get referenced in later movies... Of course they happened, but the movie franchise's average of quality goes way up when you just don't bring them up.  I don't so much believe anyone actually wrote a lot of ROTF as Bay used an outline while filming.

My cut of ROTF is probably more like a half hour movie where Megatron comes back, kidnaps Sam, beats up Prime, Prime dies, Sam dies, both come back because Sam found the Matrix, Prime gets jetpack. The End! :D
