I do wish it was a TF, that had been hanging out with Shane and helping win races etc, but alas. It was probably intended to be a TF but they just scrapped the idea for whatever reason.
I'm thinking the same thing, I think the reason is Bumblebee. Had the sonic been a tf and been shanes car all the Bumblebee human interaction scenes would have been switched with the other character.
We could have had that car as an Autobot and removed Shane from the movie completely (that would have been an improvement, I think). 'Smokescreen' could have been searching for Optimus Prime and had tracked him to Cade's home, thus allowing him to intervene when Cemetery Wind showed up.
That's exactly what I had in mind: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/1011143-aoe-rollbar-touched-up-new-head.html
I kind of got the feeling that the rs was indeed intended originally to be a bot and for whatever reason many of the parts ended up going to bumblebee.....Due to their probable similarities. Maybe. Because like what many of you guys have been saying Shane has absolutely no function in the movie other than the getaway chase. So other than maybe it's waiting to be unveiled in tf5 that Shane has some bigger connection then I'll just have to accept that paramount makes money of incoherent messes at times.
Accurate. On another note people, would most likely go on about how it was so convenient that the boyfriend of the daughter of the man who found Optimus was the boyfriend of the daughter of the man who FOUND OPTIMUS.
Given what people have been saying about Bumblebee and this hypothetical Smokescreen having too much overlap, you could easily have Bumblebee be the Sonic RS and have him adopt a new vehicle mode and color scheme later on. It gets rid of Shane, it brings Bee into the plot sooner, and it opens up options: Bee could inform Optimus and the humans (and the audience) of new Transformer arrivals that Bee's been helping to hide (Crosshairs, Drift, Hound). Or if the writers wanted to sacrifice the kid-appeal character Lockdown could kill Bee at the factory, fueling the general audience's hate for Lockdown. If we're dedicated to keeping Smokescreen and Bumblebee separate, we could have Smokescreen replace Drift as the repentant ex-Decepticon.
