Yeah, despite saying "I actually appreciate the movies" it turned out to be a lot of bashing.

Funnily enough, I watched '07 the other night, and afterwards I was thinking to myself 'This is all what the Autobots are assuming he'd do with the cube, dude's been in stasis for thousands of years, Earth didn't even have any machines when he landed! how the hell do they actually know what he'll do with it?'

He might very well have grabbed the cube, flipped the bird, shouted 'I am Megatron, screw you Earthlings!' and then jetted off into space to return to Cybertron a hero!

Might give this a read later whilst I'm at work.

I'm kind of floored at how many people are avoiding reading this simply because they think it's 500 pages of text. you say you'd have better things to do with your time it's going to take me less time to read this than it will to watch one of the three movies that it is discussing. It's a fascinating opinion about the movies and gave me things to think about that I hadn't thought about previously. It also inspired me to want to go watch the movies again and think of it in a new light. You folks have spent far more time reading these forums and bantering back-and-forth about whether rumble is red or frenzy is blue. I'm about 110 pages in and I can't wait to finish Reading it later.

It's premised around the idea that the movies are elaborate, straight faced social satire.

I think Michael Bay just has weird personal issues.

It doesn't necesarily make the movies something they might not have been intended to be, but it's an interesting read nonetheless.

But galvatron 2, he does agree that Optimus isnt really the hero of the film... Although his whole argument about Megatron becoming more feminized and becoming like a mother cause his legs appear bigger is kind of utter bull crap, however I do agree that Megatron has a larger role then lots of us expect. Although his whole thing about Soundwave is completely wrong and how and why Megatron went after the cube in the first place. Its as if he makes Megatron the hero because he thinks prime some times killing sprees are out of whack but he doesn't really address the thing about megatron blowing up a whole city of innocents beside the fact that its like 9/11. So yeah, also he ends saying that Megatron's truce was sincere when you can clearly tell by the tone and stature of Megs at that moment that the truce was simply a way for Megatron to escape unscathed. Megatron really doesn't want peace in the end and AOE proves this true.

I just spent about 7 hours reading all of this, (okay I skimmed some of the bits where it got sidetracked) It's like I'm seeing the trilogy with whole new eyes.

Optimus is a psychotic dick and it's a tragedy Megatron was unable to save the cybertronian civilization.

I never realised that Megatron was the protagonist for the trilogy till now.

Megatron always wanted peace, okay even if it is through tyranny.

Optimus couldn't win the war against the Decepticons and couldn't stand a Cybertron under Decepticon rule, so he prefers to cause the extinction of his entire species.

Sentinel Prime "Our planet WILL survive"
    Optimus Prime "NO!"

Optimus is a traitor to his own kind along with his "followers"

Megatron thought that Cybertron had finally been saved when he went to deal with sentinel, he just didn't want to be forced to share power with Sentinel. I guess he thought maybe he and prime could rebuild cybertron together, but he underestimated Optimus' psychotic hatred for Decepticons. And maybe hadn't realised that Optimus and Bumblebee were willing to actually destroy Cybertron.

Skimmed most of it- will read more thoroughly when I have a large chunk of time.

Some of his observations and connections are really mind blowing- others seem kinda stretched.

But he did bring up some questions I remember having while watching the movies:
Like Jazz dissing humanity for being violent while their own race is still involved in a planet wide civil war and a Cybertronian supposedly plans to conquer Earth. Jazz, sorry man, but your race isn't any better.

I don't see Optimus as an antagonist. I just see him as a struggling hero to his own kind.

I thought him saying "NO" to Sentinel was because he was about to kill him?

Jazz was the one questioning why they were helping humans, as humans were too violent, I thought?

Dunno- makes me like the movie trilogy as a whole a bit better, though XD

If the Movies we're as good as this article claimed, he wouldn't have had to make the article in the first place.

Read up thru RotF, can't help but think this would make a great Decepticon manifesto. The whole "nakedness" thing, with Megatron being completely open about who he is and Optimus's first action being to clothe himself in what he thinks he is, all of it is so damn brilliant it's a shame that it's unintentional.

I thought the same. All the talk involving Megatron's true intentions is really interesting. But when it devolved into the "Maggie is Charlotte Mearing is old Carly" and "Sam is dead, long live AllSam" stuff, I thought they were grasping at straws.
