Huh, interesting. Either the lack of damage to his chest is an error, or Prime can vary his cannon from "punch through gravity well on a spaceship" down to "don't break the skin on a fleshy human".

In any case, Prime did what he had to in order to save an innocent life. Yet another thing the war has forced him to.

Most likely explanation: it's a PG-13 movie and they had to show his corpse but do it in a way that wouldn't delve into R territory.

Yet its amazing how violent some of the fight scenes are, many of which involve decapitations. Imagine if all the robots were replaced by humans, just how gruesome it would be.

Yep, that's what I love about them.

Bonecrusher getting punched so hard that his eyeball pops out, Optimus ripping Grindor and The Fallen's faces off, ripping Megatron's head and spine out, shooting Sentinel in the face with a shotgun, and slicing Lockdown in half, right up the middle in slow motion.

I love me some Ruthless Prime.

And that's the sort of beautiful yet twisted dichotomy of the action: he kills a human, yes, but for the sole purpose of saving another human. Optimus obviously swears to end the man behind the desecration of his species earlier in the movie, but he doesn't kill Joshua and, when he finally does kill Attinger, it's purely just in the moment to save a human ally.

So I feel like even though Optimus did kill a member of a species he swore to protect, he still upholds that vow in doing so, because he did it in order to save Cade.

I'm pretty sure he and Grimlock ran over a couple of crowds of humans during the charge.

yes, just like in part 3 when dillon was supposed to melt after being knocked into the spire instead of getting shocked & bounced off like it was a nickelodeon show...had this been r or had attinger have been a transformer, let's say, what's actually left would be in pieces...would have been funny had he turned to bones like the humans in chicago

That's an end to the matter.

But that sort of helps out Prime, doesn't it, in having him do it only to save his human friend and not actually putting him in a position where Attinger is at his mercy?

The film wrote it that way, obviously. I guess if Optimus had had Attinger's life in his hands and did with him what he wished, this debate would be more intense. But at least Ehren Kruger managed to preserve Prime's honor.

Thank you for that illuminating addition to the discussion. Surely, this forum would be a lesser place without your deep insight into the topic at hand.

You added nothing to the discussion. Hence what BadGuyWins said.

I saw the scene as Optimus trying to help save Cade. Obviously he said before that he would kill whoever was responsible, but I still see the scene as Optimus trying to save Cade rather than exact revenge against Attinger. Lockdown said something to the effect that Optimus would save the human before saving himself. This Optimus, while grittier than past incarnations, was still looking out for his guys, albeit in a more aggressive manner.

I mean Optimus may have killed accidently with collateral damage in the first movie or the battle of Chicago
