Please, I hope Bay is gone. Del Toro or Edwards (from Godzilla 2014) could do great things. Hell....I could do better. Anyone besides Bay would be worth a shot. We can only hope.

Really, you could do better? How many billion dollar grossing movies have you directed?

Del Toro could work, but if you thought the designs were weird before... Too bad he's busy.

Edwards, no. Not that he's not good, but he deffinitely works better with monsters from a human perspective, rather than the "monsters" as people.

Ehh, I don't know. I kinda don't want a big name guy like Del Torro. Hire some unknown director who has a passion for the Transformers franchise.

Yes, let's not get a good director who's got a cult following, let's hire a nobody who's probably not any good.

Well, that's probably a 1 in 100 shot in finding a good unknown director with that sort of passion, and I also kind of doubt Paramount and Hasbro are willing to pass down the franchise to an unknown. Hell, they're probably still trying to convince Bay to change his mind.

Del Toro would be pretty much best-case scenario, but since he's working on Pacific Rim 2, I doubt he'd have the time, unless TF5 would be allowed to be delayed long enough.

Let's be realistic here, they're most likely going to get someone of the "Jonathan Liebesman" tier to direct it, if not Mr. Liebesman himself.

I just can't see Guillermo del Toro or Gareth Edwards wanting to have anything to do with this series, unless it was a full reboot, maybe.

That model has been pretty successful financially so far!

(I realise my point falls down a little bit on the 'nobody' part! ;)  )

Del Toro could do a pretty good job based on the style I have seen. He is busy at the moment. I would rather see something like At The Mountains of Madness or similar from him before a Transformers movie from him, to be honest.
I am not sure how Edwards would treat it, I guess it depends if the robots are "monsters" or "people" to him. Then again, I heard the decision to tone down the creatures in Godzilla was the writer's decisionn while the cinematography was him. In that case, we would want Edwards and a good writer. Oh, he is busy aos well.

Even you can do better? Heck why not have Tom Green too while you're at it.

I really don't want any big names to pick up where Bay left off. Let's let those guys start from scratch after TF5.

Guilmero Del Toro, Joss Whedon, or Peter Jackson would be great.

Hell, Hasbro could give the movie rights to Disney for all i care, least it will be half decent. (I like the bay films don't get me wrong but i can't deny the movie franchise has its share of problems)

Gareth is good at crafting story, atmosphere, drama, and suspense. But he doesn't seem to be able to get the best performances from his actors - they're all a little too monotone. The only actor who I thought did a really good job was Bryan Cranston, and that's just cause he's Bryan Cranston - guy works harder than anyone else in that industry. So Gareth is fine, but he needs someone else to control the performance side of things.

And keep Del Toro FAAAAAAR the fuck away. I love the guy to death, I think he's a visionary, and would probably babble like an idiot from pure joy if I ever met him. But face it, his style does NOT fit Transformers. Guillermo's thing is organics, Lovecraftian horror, and stuff like that. I don't see where any of that could fit in Transformers.

Honestly, I wanna see them go all out Oscar bait with it. Get Alfonso Cuaron to direct, Roger Deakins on cinematography...at the very least, we'll have something to talk about for a while :p

Um...where do you think directors come from, randomly pop out of thin air? Everyone has to start somewhere. And just because someone has a cult following doesn't mean they're any good,..just look at Bay!

I'm a nerd. Of COURSE I saw Pacific Rim. But just because the dude makes ONE movie with robots in it doesn't mean he should direct Transformers. They wouldn't mesh at all. It's like when Burger King made those Bacon Sundaes - two good things don't mesh into one great thing.

I don't know why nay one would want the guy who did godzilla to do transformers, considering Godzilla is guilty of all the same sins people complain about bay for.

Bay doesn't have a cult following. When you see Bay's name stapled to a film he has directed you KNOW its going to be pulsing with action, which is what many people like to watch. Hence films like Expendables are so popular, some people just dont care for story and want to see awesome action stunts. Fast and Furious is another such film saga.

And its kinda the reason Bays films tend to come out during the summer xD

Aside from the tokusatsu robots, Pacific Rim firmly sits in del Toro's usual wheelhouse of monsters, visual distinctiveness, and the consequences of human hubris. If he did Transformers, the designs would be even more stylized and unrecognizable. Megatron would probably have a tripartite jaw, chainsaw tongue, and eat other Transformers in order to extend his fading lifespark. (On the plus side, Ron Perlman would probably get to be Kup, but still...)

I love Guillermo's films, but I don't think he's the right fit for this particular brand of space opera.

Bryan Singer would be a good choice. He's had some missteps, but he tends to have a good hand with managing large ensemble casts and recognizing the humor to be found in tense situations. He's got a fondness for genre work, isn't too artiste-y, and might be able to do a big project after Apocalypse.

James Gunn would have been good, right up until a couple months back, when everyone else joined me in understanding that this guy really knows how to tell a cracking good shaggy dog yarn. Now he's too busy.

Brad Bird would be great, but he probably wouldn't want to do it. But he'd be my pick, for someone who really gets how all-ages sci-fi and superhero stories work.

I expect the studio will end up going with someone like Roland Emmerich, someone with a name in blockbusters and a reputation for tight project management and budget control. End result will be a mediocre film, better than the recent Bay efforts, but nothing noteworthy or memorable.
