Boy do I love the anime aesthetic.

It makes me long for another Transformers anime.

 

Aww, it's just promo art? That sucks, I wanted it to bee a full manga. I would totally buy Transformers movie manga, even if it's just for the art.

 

i would have loved to see brains in that style. i bet he popped up in that one of the first 3 movies, but again, that appears to no longer exist or whatever.

 

Because he has a tongue in the movie.

I did a bit of digging myself, it's done by Naoto Tsushima, who has published quite a few official TF manga.

He also did some Gundam and Super Robot War manga as well. He had "Allspark" manga (I think it's G1/Generations character based) going on Kero Kero Ace magazine until it ceased publication.

According to his twitter posts and such, this AoE manga is not officially endorsed by TakTom or the movie distributor.

for those unaware, Grimlock does have a touge in every promotional art for the character, and maybe in the movie itself. its not something they did for Manga

 

Perhaps he can employ it as a snake does, to taste at particles in the air and thus better pinpoint his prey. Maybe it's a sensory appendage, exploring things that his unholy maw of teeth and teeny arms would be unsuited to examining. It might even be a weapon, designed to shoot out like a harpoon and drag opponents into his mouth! Or maybe he's a sadist who uses it to taste the blood of his victims for that extra sensory buzz of murderous pleasure.

Or heck, it does nothing. He just has it 'cause he felt like it. An aesthetic touch, nothing more.

We've shot water into Grimlock's throat, now he can't breathe fire!

Also, that artwork is pretty awesome. Lockdown looks fantastic!

 

heh, kinda funny people nipticking on whether Grimmy should have a tongue or not despite he's modeled after (not so planet Earth accurate) T-Rex? or Cybertronians in general, Optimus included, may have a tongue to go with his teeth for his Mr. Cullen speeches, i mean they're not robots you could build out of a science kit that involves plastic & soda cans, they are lifeforms that needs sensory organs for crying out loud
