one is a murderous, bloodthirsty monster who brandishes a variety of weapons to fully mutilate his enemies and has a knight motif. the other is grimlock.

 

Before calling out AOE, call out the first people who did it. Why did G1 Grimlock constantly challenge Optimus?

 

Because that was part of his character. He disagreed with Optimus and did not respect his authority because he thought he was a weak leader. We know this because G1 Grimlock (in the majority of his incarnations) had clear characterization that was shown through his dialogue and character interactions.

AOE Grimlock is immediately hostile for no reason other than robot-dinosaur fight. He's described as a legendary warrior/ancient knight or whatever despite portrayed entirely as nothing more than a wild, mindless beast. There's no characterization to speak of. The best you can do is take the toy bio or knowledge of past Grimlocks as a Transformers fan, but that's irrelevant because it's from sources outside of the film.

Hell, without any knowledge of Transformers lore, you wouldn't even know the robot dinosaurs were called Dinobots or that the T-Rex had a name.

 

Because G1 Optimus was a character who handled situations in a mature way and Grimlock was pretty much movie Optimus 24 years before RotF. So they naturally conflicted, and G1 Grimlock was constantly getting himself into messes and taking unnecessary risks because of it.

They could have simply just combined the two into one really; the Dinobots could have been these legendary knights that were also wild, brutal, and savage beings with extremely hot tempers and would challenge anyone whom they think is picking a "fight" with them.

That would have easily explained why Grimlock attacked Optimus... But alas.

 

The reason I ask is cause havent they fought on Cybertron before?

 

Er, not in the Movieverse. Grimlock never showed up in the Movieverse until AOE.

 

By this im taking it Bay doesnt follow actual storyline?

 

In all seriousness, I've found that the best way to enjoy these movies is to avoid asking questions, like this one, and taking everything as is. For instance, could you imagine watching the Avengers sequel and Hawkeye and Black Widow not appearing and their disappearance never being addressed. Here's looking at you Jolt. And the worst thing a person can possibly do is ask these types of questions, because they will inevitably be labeled a "hater" for not blindly riding the movie verse "d**k." But yeah, Optimus fighting the T-Rex transformer, that was never named in the film, was meant to look cool and be a nod to the transformer fans, even though it was a scene that was not fully developed story wise in the film.

 

Well, no, he doesn't, but even in the IDW/Titan/whatever tie-in comics, Grimlock never appeared. The only work of fiction set in the Movie universe that the Dinobots appear in is AOE.

Not sure what you mean here. The movies are their own thing and have no association whatsoever to other Transformers stories and media.

 

Was pretty self explanatory some guy comes and tells you what to do you don't want to you have some kind of honor code he beats you in combat you do what he wants.
