They had to use the flames because of the film in 2006/7 when the made the movie but technology evolved from there on.Still very glad the sticked to the flames through all the movies

I'm not big on the technical details either but yes it was something about the type of film used at the time of the first movie and the type of projectors most movie theaters were using that made large areas of red difficult to work with. It's like the red wants sort blurs and you get kind of a red glow effect around the red object.

Can't recall the films now, but I've seen where films of the era tried using red lettering on a black background and you can really see the effect there.

The only flat noses I see anymore are short bodyed cargo haulers. I did see a nice looking long nose on he freeway a few days ago, white with deep blue flames, movie verse magnus?

A better question: why did his long-nose have to be accepted, and not without thought?

I don't see where anybody has said that it had to be accepted without thought?

Although the longnose has never bothered me, seeing both the flatnose and longnose on screen in AOE did make my reasons for preferring the longnose in movieverse more concrete.

For toys- the flatnose Evasion Optimus is a winner, though.

I didnt think people really cared.

I have never much cared about what a character turns into really.

Honestly, I like the longnose, I just wish that they didn't go with the BIGGEST one possible.

I like the first film's Peterbuilt, as it looks like a true workhorse design. The Western Star is too flashy.

Badflip's concept design is the best.

I don't care as long as he's a truck. - Strong, regal, commanding, reliable

I LOVE the G1 mode as much as the Peterbilt and the Western Star.
Have to say I'm not the hugest fan of his AoE robot mode though as he doesn't look like a Transformer.

It was in issue in 2007 and ROTF because he was filming on film stock, which is not impossible, but can be troublesome for his techniques. DOTM and AOE were filmed digitally, so it wasn't an issue then.

Funny y'all should mention it. I don't think I have seen flat nosed trucks in a while. Has anyone seen the Marmon 97 (Prime's evasion mode) recently?

I don't know if I've seen that exact truck, but there's always one or two at least on my daily commute on the interstate to college at any given hour.

I'd also suspect that flat-noses tend to be more common for delivering loads to places with tight clearances, since obviously flat noses would be easier to fit into narrow, squared loading bays, unlike the more common long-nose.

Also driver safety since obviously, cab-over flatnoses have less than an inch of glass and metal protecting the driver, whereas long noses have about half the entire truck's mass - engine included - in front of the driver.

EDIT: The wiki article on cab overs sheds some insight on the matter:

I don't mind the long-nose, but I'm probably in the small minority that prefers Optimus Prime as a fire truck, like in Robots in Disguise 2001, because it emphasises the fearless hero aspect of his personality. If they do reboot the movies (and I'm not saying they should), it would be great if the reboot's Optimus was a fire truck.

European trucks usually consist of Volvo, Scania, DAF, MAN, Iveco and Mercedes.

There are quite a few long nose Scanias though.

Volvo and Scania are the shit.... :rock

The UK rarely sees Peterbilts, Kenworths and what not, apart from truck shows :p

I more like the long nose, especially in scenes where Optimus is ramming though something
