We're all Transformers fans and many of you read the comics, books, play the games and watch the TV shows. The public largely enjoys the films and it has earned billions while the fandom has issue with them.

Are these films actually bad or are they simply not the films you want them to be?

I've thoroughly enjoyed all the films and never had problems them despite their faults. People would argue that "objectively" the films are bad but, who are others to define for everyone what makes a good or bad film? For example, people can say that they couldn't distinguish the bots in TF1 but, I always could or, AoE was too long whereas I was disappointed when it ended because I wanted more.

We can argue about story, charactisation and the human element and we can also discuss about the constraints of the movie format and what a film has to do to satisfy the public who outnumber Transformers fans.

Ultimately, I think it's important to ask ourselves if the films are actually terrible or are people just offended by Bay's interpretation on a franchise that has had many interpretations.

    I love them personally.

Granted there are some things that could have been done better, but then again that can be said for everything.

This is a good question and I think it's one that people who are dislike the movies should ask. There can be objective standards for judging a movie as "bad" beyond just being someone's opinion. Things like dialogue, plot, basic story structure, etc... can be used to determine if something is good or not. Sometimes it can be carried on special effects as well (an example of "bad" would be Batman and Robin where Mr. Freeze freezes the city and there was an obviously plastic icicle dangling from a car door. In a multibillion dollar budget movie, that's an unforgiveable mistake to make it on screen). So there can be objective standards for this, I think what tends to happen is some people were expecting something more in line with what they remembered from their childhoods and when they didn't get that, well sometimes people will react badly.

Me personally, it's been a while since I've seen the films, so I don't really remember a whole lot plotwise. In fact, I plan to do a reverse of CaptainSlayer's "Bayformers fan reviews G1" thread. Being a G1 fan, I plan to watch and review the movies and post my thoughts on here. I haven't seen AoE yet, but I plan to get it tonight so that will be completely blind and new.

I enjoy and love the films and everyone who has their own opinions on the movies.

As long as the movies work for me then I would not care about negative reviews.

This times infinity. All four films (Yes, even ROTF) were highly enjoyable experiences for me, and all the butthurt in the world won't change my opinion.

Keep at it, Bay&Co. Keep fighting the good fight.

I mean, I enjoy them. These movies are quite visually spectacular. But I don't think any movie from this series (besides the first and maybe the third) fits the bill of a "great movie".

To me, a "great movie" succeeds at not only visuals, but also containing a logical, compelling plot, having a great cast, being original where it counts, and actually being thought out (which is something we all know these movies aren't the best at.)

Yes, the Transformers films are a thrill to watch. Funny and action-packed, with some really nice story-telling from time to time. They're good. Just not great. These movies might be home runs, but they aren't like others that knock it straight out of the park.

I'm sorry, but if you like these movies, you're a wrong idiot.

Is what I WOULD say if I was a prick. Don't get me wrong, I think the movies are fucking horrible, and while I realize why TF fans keep coming to them, I don't see what the hell keeps the mainstream audience coming to them. But people aren't idiots for liking these movies - if you like them, good for you! I respect your opinion, I just don't agree with it.

It really isn't what I want.

They aren't good movies really, their fun (for the most part) but I just wished I could be incharge though AOE with its robot development was a step in the right direction.

It's not often a bunch of movies are such that I can watch them repeatedly and they never get old. Other movies, like District 9 and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly are like that for me, but when we have a series of four movies now that I can be entertained by no matter how many times I've seen them before, then there is something going "right" somewhere in them for me, even with the thin plots and unnecessary characters.

they're what I want in the sense that they are live action Transformers. there are a lot of production mistakes that stand out to me in each film but I generally get over it.

I am curious as to why you worded that like they are mutually exclusive?

    It's not want I want.

It's like I'm watching Independence Day VS Terminator.

I want to see Transformers take the center stage in their own film.
I want to see more alt mode action and less ancillary characters and sub plots eating screentime. Also the Decepticons are 50% of the franchise yet they are resorted to cannon fodder and drones.

I don't expect a Nolan screenplay, but you would think with the money involved they would put something half decent together.

They're bad, but they're also entertaining. The two things aren't mutually exclusive.

But the films are just so draining to watch. I feel like need a long nap after watching one of them.

I wouldn't really say the public "largely enjoys them". They get very poor reception, and I've met, or heard very few people who truly enjoy them.

As for your question, the films are bad. There are other versions of Transformers that fall into the "not what I wanted to see" category, but Bayformers is bad.

Honestly, all movies have problems, but I can't think of anything else I've seen that has everything wrong with it.
    Bad characters
    Bad story
    Bad humor
    Bad director
    Bad writing
    Bad action scenes
    Bad special effects
There's no doubt about it, Bay perfected Bad.

They're bad on every conceivable level. I would rather watch Batman & Robin four times in a row, at least that film was entertainingly awful instead of being boring and insulting.

You kids don't know what bad is.

Bad is an art, and Bay and his works are still miles away from perfect bad.
