You didn't miss much. It did have slightly better animation than the regular series, but that just means it looked like one of the better Transformers episode. It was so forgettable that I even forgot about it though Boulder (and the Rock Lords) debuted in it.

Dude, if you're still planning to watch the movie this Sunday, I have two words for you: LIVE BLOG. Get ahold of that software the news staff here uses when they're covering a convention panel, and then you just type your observations into that window and we see it a second later, as you type it. Because I'm thinking... if you watch it Sunday, then ALL of us (I don't want to speak for everyone else in the thread but I'm going to anyway), ALL of us are going to be sitting around with nothing better to do than... than what, co-watch? No... No! BRO-WATCH (trademark pending) the Movie with you! I'm totally serious here. Post what time you're going to pop it in and I will be sitting here in front of my own screen ready to synchronize!

Dude, this will be EPIC... We keep saying this, but nothing you've seen so far has prepared you for the eye-bleeding levels of awesome that await. You're not gonna be watching a two-hour TV episode here. I'd tell you to strap yourself to your seat, but frankly if you strap yourself in too far away, your eyeballs will roll out of your head and across the floor so they can get closer to the TV.

I'm with ya. Good to know this has some other folks excited here as well. Live blog would rock, hell, I wish I could come watch it with ya.

And I sooo much want to post something here, but some might consider it a spoiler (even though it's not, as I think Capt's reaction would be cool), but I wont.

In another couple of days we wont have to worry about the spoiler crap any more, so the point will soon be moot.

There's still tons of happenings after the movie, so please keep worrying about spoilers! :)

I have to echo the sentiments of my fellow blog fans: if all you're familiar with is the TV show, the movie will blow you away.

    "Beyond good. Beyond evil.
Beyond your wildest imagination." - tagline from poster for Transformers: The Movie.

And on another note... Yes there was a Gobots movie. And no, it isn't really worth wasting time watching, except as a curiosity. It had a handful of celebrity voices (Roddy McDowall, Telly Savalas, Margot Kidder) but the very concept of transforming rocks is just so flawed.

I am SO looking forward to the comments from the movie! And after that, season 3! The season 2 comments were awesome and everything I'd hoped. It's great fun to be able to see someone have the same reactions to things now that we did back then. This thread is nostalgia at it's finest right here.

After Combiner Wars, how could someone go into the cartoon for the first time and not know who they are?

Growing up watching S1, S2, S3 in the late eighties/early nineties and seeing TFTM for the first time two years ago, I'm really excited for your reaction to the movie.

Man I should have been reading this thread sooner.

Me and my brother used to spend hours looking at the catalogs that came with the toys, so we tended to know who combined into who. Never occured to me before that it might be confusing someone who didn't.

Ah the original movie. So many things from that would go on to be integral parts of the Mythos. One thing in particular sticks in my mind. Heh, and there is one particular scene I look forward to the reaction to.

Also for years the only easy to find Transformers thing to watch was the movie on VHS, so a lot of people have the best memories of it, or saw it first.

-The episode is so bad that the Botcon MST3K guys made fun of it. As does the TF Wiki. (just don't look at the Wiki before you see the episodes.)

-Defensor is the sum of the Protectobots (Hot Spot, First Aid, Streetwise, Blades and Groove), he had no origin episode like the other teams. The Marvel Comics did a better job on introducing them then the cartoon. They kinda shoehorned him in there since he was the 4th Scramble City type Combiner
-Scramble City is the Japanese term for the newer Gestalts, since the toys can switch limbs around, even add one team member to another team. The Current Combiner Wars line harkens back to this line. The other Scramble City type combiners introduced at this time are Superion, Menasor, and Bruticus (all 3 have been updated or getting updated in Combiner Wars like Defensor)
-Scramble City was originally supposed to be for the Diaclone line as Free Combination, but Takara, seeing how popular Transformers had become in the US, ended Diaclone and brought Transformers over to Japan (as Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers)
-No, I don't know how a Motorcycle can be a leg

Yeah, poor guy got shafted. B.O.T. for an introductory episode for crying out loud! Shame because he always looked cool to me. Well Combiner Wars figures, here I come. Also had a nice Dichotomy with Bruticus. One was made of military vehicles and the strongest offense, the other rescue and the strongest defense.

The miracle explination for every weird size changing in the show from Soundwave to Groove. Mass Shifting. Though combiner wars fixed that by putting in Rook and making Groove the chest plate. But heck, Longhaul is actually a giant earthmover dumptruck. His altmode should be so big the other Concons fit in the bucket and a regular dumptruck looks like a Tonka next to him.
