Purple. He looks better in purple.

There is a difference.

 

He was way more striking and powerful in the UK run of the comic but he just looks better purple.

I remember as a kid after reading the comics and watching the cartoon desperately wanting the toy regardless of colour (but would have preferred purple) as I loved that design but when I got him I remember being really really let down as the head design was wrong and he was meant to be sleek with curved edges and what I got felt blocky and ugly in comparison  

 

He's not.

He's grey and purple.

And it's just struck me what a funny word purple is. Purple. Puuuuuuurrrrrple.

I thought the question would be "Is Galvatron blue or purple"

 

Probably. I mean it's not like I'm against the purple colour scheme or anything. I swiftly snapped up the purple Japanese G1 reissue way back when because I also wanted a screen-accurate colour scheme of the mold.

 

Grey like AOE Galvatron

 

Grey for me.

I had even forgotten Galvatron was purple in the cartoon. The comics and the toy cemented the idea of a grey with purple parts Galvatron.

And I think it also looks better.

 

I assume the color change happened the same time as the ones to Ultra Magnus. With him going from the original Powered Convoy colors to white, light blue, and red.

 

Both? I grew up with Armada, and that Galvatron was a very light gray with light purple.  

 

Purple, I honestly love the color purple and it seems to fit Galvatron better in my opinion.

 

The purple cartoon version looks do much better than the gray alternative.

I prefer Galvatron as purple. But I accept him as grey too.

 

I don't even see how any of you are calling him gray in the comics. He's a blue-ish purple. This is the first I've heard of any differing opinion. Part of the reason he's colored that way is the crappy paper and colors comics had at that time.

 

Purple seems to winning and I have to agree with the masses it is pretty cool however silver isn't too bad either.

But what shade of purple? Dark similar to G1 Shockwave toy purple to match the Cyclonus toy or light blue-ish purple to match some of his appearances in fiction?

How would people feel about his G1 design but with deep crimson red colour?
