My experience is that "Geewunner" is a derogatory term aimed at TF fans who only recognize G1 as "real" Transformers and shun everything else for not being G1.

Me, I grew up with it. Love it more than any other incarnation, it's a big part of who I am. Finishing my American G1 toy collection is my primary focus right now. I'm currently watching through the whole toon series again on Netflix (watched The Girl Who Loved Powerglide last night).

But I have embraced newer incarnations as well; I love Beast Wars, Animated, and the Generations/Classics lines. IMHO, Code of Hero/Transmutate/Agenda comprise the greatest writing in TF franchise history. Do they hold the same place for me as G1? No, but that doesn't make me a "Geewunner." There's a distiction between "geewunner" and "G1 fan".

My feelings exactly. I absolutely despise the art from Animated, but damn if it didn't have a great writing team.

I guess I am one, though I had to think about it.

There have certainly been better television series than G1 in terms of writing and animation, and toy design as certainly advanced by leaps and bounds. However, in terms of the brand as a whole, yes, I would judge all subsequent reiterations by the standards it set.

Yeah, I pretty much HATE Bayformers, but I use the word more as a term of convenience than as a derogatory name. It just describes them very well... while also alluding somewhat to Bay's hubris in radically revising the whole style of Transformers. But I use the term itself fairly neutrally.

I believe the shame of Bayformers is contained within Bayformers, not in a mere word. :)

    Yeah, I'd agree with this.

It's why I own, like, NO Beast Wars characters though. As toys, they are hideous to me. The show however is reasonably watchable.

I'll watch some of the later shows, and I'll enjoy them. I'll buy new toys if they look cool. But the last group of characters I formed an emotional/nostalgic bond with was G1. Nothing since. That's why it's still all about G1 for me. Everything else is just cool robot toys... nothing more.

G1 is the backbone of Transformers. IDW's G1 for the most part is the NEW standard as far as literature goes.

But as bad as some G1 episodes were I still rank it higher than any TF show that followed. In fact none of them come close...

And with that new "Familyfriendly-formers" show due out next year G1's reign doesn't look to be changing any time soon.

I agree. I prefer to just type/say G1 instead of pretending i can't spell one.

I have nothing but contempt for Bayformers as it stands. Simply because it is Bay's "Formers". Or rather Bays "Aluminum-foil Men".

Now I'm from Philly and when you think of Philly you tend to think of Philly Cheese Steaks. Now most tourist who don't know any better go to Geno's Steaks in South Philly. Whereas most people who live in Philly go anywhere except Geno's despite it's "Bright, extravagant, in your face" decor. Because much like Geno's, Bayformers the over-exaggerated, Frozen Minute Steak on a hotdog roll of the Transformers line.

I hope that makes sense to you... Now I'm off to get a REAL cheese steak for lunch!

You can hate Bayformers without being jerky about it. In fact, if we all respected that other fans might like what we don't, and phrased our posts accordingly, the community might just get along better.

Largely a myth. Yes, there are a few very, very loud vocal ones who may at times make it seem like some great insidious cult, but by and large the kind of person you're referring to is so rare as to be practically non existant. It's a term that gets incorrectly applied to people who voice complaints about any non G1 continuity.

G1 fans? There are plenty of those and yes, I'm one of them.

I grew up with G1, I love G1 and always will, nothing will ever be better than it, to me. Do I turn my nose up to anything that came after? NO. I enjoy them too, for the small sample sizes that they are. I especially love R.I.D, it was a great a show, and probably had the coolest Prime ever seen to date. Everybody has the right to enjoy whatever incarnation they want, and critique what they don't like. Its the people who try to force what "they like" on others, and critique you for what you like that creates the "hate" here.

This would be a plausible argument if the thread in question wasn't G1 troll bait to begin with...

The OP has in the past expressed his dislike of Bayverse too, so if this is flame-bait, it isn't from the Bayformer fans.

Besides, we can't control the OP, but we can control our own words and actions.

I like the "hubris" if anything to show how this fandom what little power it actually has and such. That is why all the crying and buthurt amuses me so much. If I was Bay I would probably troll people like this. Its cute when fans think they have an actual saying and go on rage posts. But I digress.

I never got into G1 at least in the cartoon sense. It always seemed such a shit cartoon to me. The only incarnation of G1 that I give a damn is the IDW series, because unlike in the cartoon, the characters there are actual characters.

How are you defining "actual characters?"

It isn't troll bait; I legitimately enjoy Generation One.

The fandom does have influence on the products Hasbro sells--I.E. the entire conceit behind Generations.

See. I think there's a problem with this.

I do judge G1 as the standard. But even thought it's my bar line. there's been 3 series which are just as good or better.

I'm sure there are a few G1er who don't think they are.
And i'm sure there a a few people who don't think there G1ers but are.
