I feel like Bumblebee would fit this better. The way I see it, he's younger, more naive and exploitable. Most of all, he's Optimus Prime's little buddy and probably his greatest ally after Ratchet. Rodimus and Optimus generally don't have a close bond, definitely not to the extent of Bumblebee and Optimus.

And Optimus seemed pretty willing to thump Rodimus when he went bad with the Hate Plague. I don't think he has it in him to even give 'Bee a dirty look.

 

Rodimus will never have a chance at redemption......ever.
G1 Rodimus Prime sucked so badly, every other incarnation of Rodimus/Hot Rod was immediately effected before they were conceived.

Animated Rodimus knows this better than most as he "bit the dust" from a vile of cosmic rust in his debut episode. He only had tiny cameos that lasted no more than a second after that.

Barber seems to know how handle the character. He's still Rodimus the chosen one/Optimus heir but he is deeply flawed has still has a long way to go and alot to learn. Think JJ Abraham's version Kirk, hot headed and arrogant but you know there greatness in him.

 

You are very correct. Or even Ultra Magnus fit this role, as Optimus's old friend.

I thought Rodimus would work, but he just wasn't really around long enough to be really established as close to Optimus for the Winter Soldier thing to work with him.

 

Don't think so. In the MCU, Buck and Steve were brothers, not a sidekick. Winter Soldier is more like Tankor, or Armada Wheeljack

 

Don't we have a really fucking obvious alternative candidate for this character archetype?
