30 years ago this week, Marvel editor Jim Shooter tasked Bob Budiansky with creating names and bios for many of the original 28 Transformers - with a deadline of a week, the deadline itself falling in Thanksgiving! I would invite fans old and new in joining me in raising a glass to Bob Budiansky for the start of his great contribution to the Transformers franchise, 30 years ago this week. And also to give our thanks to all those who have contributed to the Transformers in all of the last 30 years.

Bob deserves major respect. He breathed life into characters who have lasted three decades and will last many MANY more. To me, he is just as important as Shuster and Siegel, Kane, Lee, and many others.

I know 5/8/84 was the release date for the first issue of the Marvel Comic, but I'm curious to know when the animated ads for that comic started airing? I want to say it was at least a month or so before the comic release date, because I remember seing them in my first house, which I moved from in April 84. Also I'm curious about the toys. The summer of 1984 was a bit odd for me because I was transferring schools, and when I started 3rd grade in September all the "cool kids" had them, while I was still collecting MOTU.   I'm guessing the first toys much have shown up in the summer sometime, because the animated series started in September, I remember THAT vividly.
