What do you feel is the most shocking moment in any work of transformers fiction?

Personally, I would have to say the pure slaughter of the Autobots in the '86 movie.

Rewind and Chromedome's (kind of) gay relationship.

    ...What? I was surprised.

He said in a show, not comic series.

But I agree with you on the '86 movie Autobot deaths, AgentA. That was crazy.

I might regret asking this, but their relationship put you off reading the comics?

In a way, I was right all along.

Well when I read the post before it was edited, it said “show". But whatever.

Definitely the massacre in the 86 movie. Up until that point, when someone got hurt, they got fixed. Sometimes it took an entire episode, but they got fixed. Even if they got blown apart from the inside. Even if a mountain fell on them, everything worked out in the end for the good guys.

    Not anymore.

When the Decepticons started firing, not with new special weapons or powers or whatever, but with their normal sidearms (and Megatron, I guess, but we'd seen people shot by him before), and they started falling, crumpling, burning, clawing to get back up only to be silenced forever... we knew the game had changed. The Transformers were now vulnerable, fragile... smaller, somehow, like us.

And it only kept going, broken bodies of Autobots while almost nothing could seem to stop the Decepticons, only to dodge them and slow them down a bit. When Hot Rod crushes Kickback's head, that's basically the closest we'd seen to a resistance up until then (and I guess it showed us death and injury were on the table even for the Decepticons). And then Prime arrived.

Prime and the Dinobots, the cavalry, the strongest, toughest Autobots we'd ever seen. They'd make things right, right? They'd stop the bad guys. And they did, but at a price. Prime, mortally wounded for hesitating, for sparing his comrade. Punished for doing the right thing by fate or destiny or the writers or poor toy sales or whatever. And when we saw him die, and turn grey, we knew that if he could die, if the strongest, toughest Autobot could die and turn ashen, then who else could be next?

I don't think anyone saw that coming back then.

I have to put up with slash in fanfictions, I just don't like it.

And I don't really care for the comics in general.

    MAN! Glad we avoided that!

I'd also like to put up as a moment, Smokescreen getting shot by the Requiem Blaster in Armada. That surprised me.

So shocking, I have it here, on video.

...Course, then they just brought him back to life, but still.

    Definitely the animated movie deaths.

Also, the marvel comic had its moments.

What about Armada Starscream's sacrifice? Or was that a bit more sad than shocking?

    Ebay:
Spike and Fort Max sacrificing themselves in a failed attempt to stop Megatron in G2. Really set the tone for the series (for better or worse).

    From least to greatest:

    5) The point blank annihilation of Ironhide (DOTM 2012)
    4) Final clash between Rampage & Depthcharge
    3) Death of Starscream (TFTM 1986)
    2) The Autobot slaughter (TFTM 1986)
    1) The... point blank annihilation of Ironhide (TFTM 1986)

    TFTM
    DOTM
    Both shot Ironhide
