I was introduced to G1 by my dad when he told me what transformers were like when he was kid and he told me that Megatron was a gun and I was like whaaaaaaat that is crazy. Then he showed me a couple of G1 episodes and I loved it so that's how I was introduced to G1

I don't remember ever watching G1 in my younger days, although it's possible I might have and can't remember. Beast Wars and the first two Bayformers films were my exposure to Transformers beforehand.

But one day, I noticed I was getting a free preview of Hub, and noticed they aired The Transformers, so I decided to watch it.

I loved the hell out of it.

Granted, I have a high tolerance for 80s cartoon silliness due to growing up on 80s cartoons, which made the whole thing easier to swallow. (Mighty Megatron, leader of the Decepticons, being taken out by a kid with spraypaint.)

Then when the preview expired, I decided to go look for the rest of the episodes online. And that's how I really got into Transformers.

My four year old loves Transformers. I have given him a lot of exposure. I tried not to force anything on him, but I had a lot of my stuff displayed on a few shelves and he kept asking questions. He would also notice every time a new one joined the ranks on the shelves. For a time he would ask about each character, followed by the question "what does he transform into??" He started to retain some info after asking enough questions, and now has a pretty decent knowledge of G1 characters.

I let him play with most of my stuff, and if he gets curious about a character I'll ask him if he wants to see an episode with that character. Then I'll pull out my G1 dvd's for him. For a time he was pulling out my TF dvd box set every morning to watch episodes even before he could talk much. It was pretty funny.

I showed him my YOTS Omega Supreme a few months back, and asked him if he recognized the character. After a moment he said "it kind of looks like Omega Supreme daddy." I was very proud. :)

I have a T-Shirt with Optimus, Jazz, and Prowl on it and when I was leader at my church's youth group they used to ask me who the other two besides Prime was. I had to explain to them about old school G1 since they were fans of the movies at the time. I wonder if there are board members who don't know who some of the characters are in my sig without looking them up.

Amen, in a nutshell. Thread winner right there. My lad just turning 3... he knows who OP, megs, bumblebee, soundwave and the seekers are... his bedtime stories are now the ladybird TF books. Legacy of (IMO) the greatest toy fiction franchise has to be passed on.

My son is about to be five. He watches G1 on Netflix all the time. I love watching him run around the house imitating Soundwave and trying to talk like him. He basically stole all of my G1s from me...lol....good thing I only collect MPs now........or is it.....

My nephew loves G1. When he gets older I might get him some G1 figures.

The G1 flame is very much alive. My introduction to TFs was Armada. I went through the entire UT before I stumbled upon the G1 movie at my local Blockbuster (anyone else miss those?) and got hooked on the old episodes, toys, and comics.

Plan and simple... Know your roots.

For every new Transformers cartoon or block-buster movie, there's always going to be new (younger) fans that seek out where everything originated from.

Plus, most of us who grew up in the 80's now have children of our own and/or are around friends and family members with younger children and have introduced G1 to the younger generation in some way or another through showing them the G1 cartoons and/or talking about what Transformers were like when we were kids.

I have 2 daughters, 5 years old and 2 years old, and both of them were introduced to G1 since birth.

From time to time, I'll watch a couple G1 episodes with my daughters and they'll ask questions about whose who and what do they transform into... And of course their favorite G1 episode is the one with the Fembots!

I'll also break out a few G1 toys every now and then and let them play with it... My 5 year old (pictured in my signature with Fort Max when she was 11 months) carried around a G1 Grimlock for good amount of time and brought it with her everywhere she went... I always thought that was so cool. :)

So yeah, G1 will be alive among the younger generation... At least in my household. :thumb

I actually shared a dealer's table with some of my friends and one of my favorite customers this past Botcon was a young kid, must have been 8-10 years old, who not only knew the names of a bunch of the G1's that I was selling, but also knew how much their current market values were for each toy... I was amazed and delighted to see someone so young appreciate G1!

His father bought a lot of my G1's for him, mostly Headmasters to go with his Fort Max at home, and I hooked him up with good prices and gave him a couple G1 freebies.

It was really cool to see a father and son relationship like that and I can tell the father was doing a great job raising his son. :)

I just recently introduced my 3-year-old to G-1. He associates trucks with Optimus Prime and recently called a T-Rex Display, "Grimlock." Now we watch episodes as part of his bedtime routine and my wife got him a Rescue Bots Optimus Prime as his 1st TF. Ironic because G1 Prime was also the 1st one I owned too thanks to my parents :)

My dad keeps saying that I watched Beast Wars as a kid, me being almost 20 he's prolly right but I don't remember much of it. My love for the brand didn't truly take effect until Bayverse came along. After diving in I found myself unable to leave. I'm already a ginormous car freak so adding giant alien robots to the equation just made things even better. When I found out there had been previous series before and after BW, I got sooooo excited, and if I remember correctly the first one I went to watch was G1, absolutely loved it! I can't even begin ta count the many hours I shoulda spent on sleeping that were instead used for watching episode after episode on YouTube lol.

My sister got excited for them a little bit, but not like me. When I do have kids of my own someday I'm gonna introduce them to the brand, I'm hoping they'll take a liking to 'em! :D

The 30th anniversary is NOT FOR G1. It is for Transformers as a whole.

It actually amazed me a little just how much my son loves G1 cartoon

It's pretty much his fave thing at the moment; really loves the cartoon, digs the toys, etc. what was very cool is that I can pick up so much CHUG stuff so what he sees on the cartoon he can ask Santa for at Christmas, Birthdays etc :)

On reflection though it makes perfect sense that a 5 yr old boy would be hooked. It's a simple fun cartoon, the characters are great, the baddies are great baddies. It doesn't matter it's 30 yrs old. It's lost very little in the time and is still perfect viewing for a young boy. So much to love there....Grimlock, ironhide, jazz. Optimus.

Other older cartoons I have shown him but he keeps asking for transformers

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I think TFP VERY much aped the live action movies, and those don't smack of worshiping G1. Saying they did would be like saying A/E/C did

That, and Peter Welker wasn't meaning the 30th Anniversary toy line, he meant literally that it's the 30th anniversary of the beginning of the G1 era. How could anyone misinterpret that?

As far as indoctrination, my little brother has been showing my nephews G1 on Netflix. Apparently his oldest son, Emrik, pointed to the Platinum Grimlock vs. Bruticus set and asked my brother Ashley if that was Bruticus. Bear in mind he's not old enough to read quite yet. Even Ashley was taken aback by this and just a little proud. When my daughter is a touch older, since 1 is just a tad too early for TFs, I'll show it to her.

I think G1 is massively over hyped. No one claims a Superman fan has to read his first issue. Some do but not all.

The G1 cartoon just wasn't that good.

G1 still exists and is more lively than ever. It's just called the Transformers brand now.
