As a stand alone series, Beast Machines would have been fine. But as a follow up to Beast Wars it certainly had problems. Plot Get rid of the idea that Cybertron was once an organic world and that the Beast Wars was some predestined thing to bring back beast forms. They could still have been involved with making Cybertron a techno-organic world, but that should have been more of an evolution of the planet because the Maximals and Predacons had been developing the technology to adapt realistic animal forms rather than a fight to balance the organic and technological. The Maximals primarily should have been focused on stopping Megatron. Also would have been nice if some Predacons were in the show to address their side of the situation. Characterizations Optimus Primal - He's supposed to be a regular Maximal starship captain, but Beast Machines portrayed him more as a religious guru and organic fanatic, blindly following the Oracle. He needed more of the exploitative scientist he was in Beast Wars, and leader that could think for himself. Blackarachnia - They made her obsessed with getting Silverbolt back and lost a lot of the independent bad girl with her own agendas that made her such a strong character in Beast Wars. Not to mention she was more of a gadget inventor than Rattrap ever was. Rattrap - He could be a bit of a coward in Beast Wars but most of that was just him being a loud mouth that didn't like risking his own neck, although he'd never betray his friends either. He was always a resourceful fighter and stepped up when he was needed. I didn't mind the shift towards him becoming a hacker/inventor of the group, but how they handled it was really out of character for him and very awkward. Rhinox - I really think they should have explained his turn to evil as having not been freed of the Tankor personality. Like if Tankor was still in control but had access to Rhinox's intelligence and memories. Because he didn't act anything like Rhinox. Nightscream - He just needed to be toned down. He was overly confrontational with the other Maximals. He never seemed to get it was their world and friends they'd lost too. Megatron - Not really an issue of his portrayal, but I think they needed to explain where his hatred for organics came from, and why he decided his should be the only guiding intellect on Cybertron when he'd already conquered the planet. Character designs The Beast modes looked fantastic but the robot modes needed more of a robot element to them. The transformations needed to be less of a morph effect. Also think the characters in general needed to be more easily adaptable to toys given how badly the toys resembled the majority of characters. And just another thing of note. How Savage/Noble was created needed to be better explained. Especially how he got the wolf form.
YES. Sorry, OP, but the ideas in that first post would have destroyed what was a fantastic series....
This, all of this. The story makes up for the designs by far. Beast Machines is the wine of the Transformer series, it gets better with age.
What if Megatron didn't take over Cybertron and that he had a brother who took it over? His name is Gigatron and he'll be disgusted with organic life-forms including Megatron and his Preds taking forms of them. Nightscream shouldn't be the only survivor. Since he's one of the last Maximals, why not Predacons be involved too? One surviving Maximal and one surviving Predacon joins the heroes. To complete the rainbow: - red - Rattrap - orange - ? - yellow - Silverbolt - green - Blackarachnia - cyan - Nightscream - blue - Optimus - purple - Cheetor They could surely use white, violet and grey. I don't know why but the transformations seem cool when the colors appear.
Another one. Nightscream is basically Newt (and a fembot) the original idea they had for the character instead of John Connor.
Yup, I've been rewatching it and it's way better than I even remembered. Probably because it's way shorter, and moves faster.

Watching it recently and there is some problems and the biggest is its art style. The maximal designs are just bad for the eyes. The vehicon designs kicked ass and look great. The only thing I would fix is I would tone down rattrap's cowerdness, silverbolts depression and made rhinox survive and become a maximal again. Beast machines is one of the better shows. Personally I feel that the unicorn trilogy and prime needs some fixings. I never seen an single episode of rid so I have no words for that series.
Yup. The Oracle suppsoedly predates the first Transformers on Cybertron, so it's been mucking about for billions of years.
Beast Machines wasn't terrible, and none of those things were terrible. I'm sorry you didn't like them, but that in no way makes the series terrible.
I may have already posited this earlier in the thread, but the only alteration I would make would be adding a Predacon survivor to the Maximal team. I feel this would further accentuate the fact that Megatron forsook his own kind. Also the toyline.
